Windows Essentials 2012

Support Ends January 10, 2017

Windows Essentials 2012 suite will be available for download until January 10, 2017.

Installed applications will continue to work...

It would be wise to download and save a copy of Windows Essentials 2012 (Offline Installer) to a separate disk as backup.

Windows Essentials 2012 (Offline Installer) wlsetup-all.exe:

Some are having difficulty downloading, installing, and running Windows Essentials 2012 with respect to Photo Gallery.

Windows Essentials 2012 contains the following programs:

     Photo Gallery

     Movie Maker

     Windows Live Writer

     Windows Live Mail

     OneDrive

  1. Windows Essentials 2012 may be downloaded from two places:

Download the software.

Install the software.

Run the software.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition is missing.

Support for this product ended April 12, 2016.

Microsoft link from which the above support table was acquired is no longer available.

Verify that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition is not in your programs.

Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features

If the software is installed, you will see the blue item highlighted for viewing ease. There are many SQL Servers, but you want this one.

  1. If Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition is not installed, it may be downloaded from:

  1. Install the software.
  2. To install the localized version of SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Runtimefrom the localized version of SQL  Server 2005 Compact Edition Developer SDK, follow these steps:
  • Open the following folder: %programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.1\SDK\bin\Desktop
  • Install the English version of SQL Server Compact Edition Runtime (SQLServerCE31-EN.msi).
  • Install the localized version of SQL Server Compact Edition Runtime (SQLServerCE31-[LN].msi)

    Oh my goodness - I think you solved it!  Holy cow my Photo Gallery opened without crashing.  Thank you for walking me through all of this - I may actually give Windows 10 a try now!

    And maybe this is a minor thing, but in my Programs, the actual full name of the program is "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Developer Software Development Kit (EMU).  That's the only SQL program on my computer that I can see.  It was installed on 8/14/16

    Tried that (again).  Doesn't seem to change anything.  Are you sure this is actually possible?  I've followed a bunch of different threads about the Photo Gallery problem with Windows 10 and it doesn't seem like any of them have a happy ending.

    Well, I tried this, freshened up the download of that Microsoft SQL server 2005, even restarted the computer but it has not changed the errors at all.  I open a photo in Photo Gallery and continue to get the same error:

    Photo Gallery encountered an error and can't start

    0x8007045a

    Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition is missing

    Any other advice?
