Computer won't connect to Wifi; asks for ethernet cable

Hello

I just turned my computer on after having it shut off for about a day. When I turned it on, it worked fine; however, after loading up Google Chrome to it's homepage for about 5 minutes, my computer completely disconnected from the wifi and now asks for an ethernet cable. I've never used an ethernet cable on my computer and I would prefer to not use one. I've gone into settings and it only says to connect with an ethernet cable and won't bring up any networks. The wifi network I originally used is working on all other devices, including my laptop which I'm currently using to ask this question. I've tried to find the driver; however there is no driver in my computer, and I've tried finding the router in my devices but there is no router. I've never had this issue before.

I have an alienware desktop with windows 8.1

    Hi,

Do a System Restore to a date before you had this problem:

Or use an Ethernet Cable and make sure that you have downloaded and installed the latest Wi-Fi Drivers for your Model Laptop and Operating System from the Laptop manufacturer's website.

Go to their website > Drivers/software/Support Downloads Section > key in your Model Number and Operating System > download and install the Wi-Fi Drivers for your operating system.

Also read the Manual for your Model which you should be able to download there, too.

And some Laptops have a physical switch to turn on Wi-fi.

    http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001410.htm

Read under these different headers at the above link:

    1. Enable with laptop Wi-Fi button
    2. Enable with laptop Fn and Function key
    3. Enable in Windows

Note: In Windows 8, when you right-click the Wi-Fi icon, check to see if Airplane Mode is turned on. If it is, turn it off to enable the wireless network card.

    1. Enable in Windows Device Manager.
    2. Enable in CMOS setup

    Cheers.
