Fix wav song file tags for import to Itunes

I store my songs and create playlists in Windows MP (Windows 7).  Then I save them as m3u playlists, and then import to iTunes on the PC for syncing down to my iphone.

I recently ripped several CDs, apparently in the wav format.  The Windows version of recently added-songs includes the correct tags meta data and album art.

However, when imported to ITunes, the tags are gone, and all that came across was the files name (track # + sing title + artist).

Is there any way to modify the song files (preferably in bulk) but in any case modify them in Windows MP so that they will import correctly to Itunes?

Thanks

I nearly suggested that myself... one cautionary note - as you are using W7 which is prone to WMP library corruption with deleted items, remove all the unwanted wav. versions by using 'Delete from Library and Computer' in WMP rather than deleting them from explorer. That will keep it tidy. The deleted files will go to your recycle bin and can be restored from there if any errors occur, so don't empty the bin until you are sure all's well.  - Best, Ric.

    Thanks for the replies.

I am tempted to blow it all out, carve out the rest of this day, and simply re-rip the CDs as MP3s...

I am periodically modifying and re-exporting my dozen+ playlists that I use to manage my music on the iphone, and so it seems the best long term solution is to re-rip these and get it done right from the start.

Robert's recommendation in his most recent post above is another possibility depending on your attitude to third party software and of course it may still not work in iTunes. I have not tested it.

There is no way of modifying this in WMP btw - I use iTunes for all music file conversions other than wma and flac which it cannot handle. Whichever approach you use there's a possibility the playlists might need to be adjusted. I'd certainly alter your rip settings in WMP to mp3 (at 192 kbps or higher - 320 for best quality) so that the tagging issue does not occur in future.  - Ric.

That fix will work, as long as I don't make changes and try and re-import a revised playlist from WMP?  Would that un-do the fix?

    Thanks

Hi - the data for wav files appears in wmp but only a limited amount is actually tagged to the file and you are correct - iTunes does not read this... The remedy is straightforward. As (presumably) you have iTunes for Windows on your PC it can convert the tracks within one album to a different format. Once reformatted you can then add the data and it will be tagged. You can select mp3 - probably the best bet because it is a widely accepted format - in the edit-preferences tab in iTunes 'rip CD' settings. That will also be applied when converting. You'll find 'convert' in the 'File' tab. Let me know if you want more on this because it's a bit late where I am - I'll get back tomorrow! - Cheers, Ric.
