Powermic device driver not installing correctly

All of a sudden my Nuance Powermic II is no longer being detected as a Powermic when plugged in to the USB port.  It is, instead, being installed as a standard USB Audio Device and the Powermic functionality (programmable buttons, etc,) are no longer working.  I have uninstalled the device driver several times however it continues to install it as a USB Audio Device rather than a Powermic.  In the Device Manager, it briefly shows the powermic as a disabled device under the heading of "Other" but then that disappears and the USB Audio Device shows up.  The Powermic is recognized and works fine on other computers in the home.  I tried a second Powermic and had the same issue.  Help!

do not use USB 3 with the PowerMic II, make sure you are plugged into a USB 2.0 port (use the white USB ports not the blue or red ones)

I have 5 USB Host Controllers listed in the Device Manager.  I tried removing the first one but still had the Powermic issue.  Other suggestions?

There were no recent changes to the computer other than the usual Microsoft Update updates.  The issue started several months ago and preceded any of the current System Restore points.

Method 1:  There are no specific Powermic drivers available from the manufacturer.  The Powermic driver is "built in" to the Microsoft database and installs automatically when the powermic is plugged in the first time.

Method 2:  Both the wireless mouse and the keyboard are USB devices.  Do these need to be disconnected before removing the USB driver?  How will I operate the Device Manager if the mouse and keyboard are removed first?

Method 3:  I have already removed and re-installed the Creative Soundblaster device driver but this did not correct the problem.

I will try removing the USB drivers via Device Manager and see if that solves the issue.

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi,

Do you remember making any recent changes to the computer prior to this issue?

I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

    Method 1:

Update Powermic device driver and check if the issue persists. Follow the steps in the link:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

    Method 2:

If the above step fails uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers if you are able to connect. You may disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

    a.       Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

    b.      Click Continue. The Device Manager Dialog box is displayed.

    c.       If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

    d.      In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

    e.      Restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

    Method 3:

If the above step fails uninstall and reinstall audio driver and check if the issue persists. Follow these steps:

    a.       Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

    b.      Click Continue. The Device Manager Dialog box is displayed.

    c.       If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

    d.      In Device Manager, click on sound and right on audio driver and click uninstall.

    e.      Restart your computer and Windows vista will reinstall the audio drivers automatically.
