It just freezes. When I click on the screen the windows live movie maker says not responding and theres an option that comes up and says do you want to close the program or wait for the program to respond. I don't know why this keeps occuring. I also tried reinstalling the windows live movie maker and using the repair option that comes up when you try to uninstall it. I need help.

What I found to work for me after some time Google ing

    1. Upload the video you're wanting to edit into Movie Maker.
    2. Save your movie without any editing done to it.
    3. Open a new instance of Movie Maker.
    4. Upload your new movie you saved in step 2 to Movie Maker

You can now make any changes/edits to the video without Movie Maker freezing when you go to save.

FYI in step 2 - Don't save as a project - save as a movie

    Hi Stanonly,

There are several causes on why your Windows Live Movie Maker freezes or ends up with (Not Responding) when saving a project into a movie, please check the following:

    1. Ensure you have installed the latest version of Windows Live Movie Maker: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started

    • For Windows Vista - The current 2011 version: 15.4.3555.0308

    • For Windows 7 / 8 - The current 2012 version: 16.4.3503.728

    • Windows Live Movie Maker is not supported on Windows XP

Note: If you are going to perform an update from 2011 to the 2012 version, Mesh will be replaced by SkyDrive app: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/skydrive/mesh-users

    1. Try making movies of a shorter duration -If you have a large movie project, splitting the video into smaller projects may help*****.* Open the whole project, split them to multiple parts. Save them as a movie individually. After saving each part as a movie, import and then combine the saved movies in Windows Live Movie Maker.
    2. Check that the files you are using are of a supported format Some file formats are not supported by Windows Live Movie Maker. A list of supported formats can be found here:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-file-types-faq
    3. Ensure that you have the proper codecs to play your videos and audio files - Audio and Video require codecs to play the file and it’s important to have the right codecs installed or updated in your PC.

    • Try running the Microsoft FixIt tool for codecs: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/video\_freezes\_or\_crashes/

Media info will be able to identify any issues with missing or faulty codecs and whether it’s already installed in your computer or not. You can get it at  http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en

     1. Open Mediainfo, click File > Open **** 2. Select the movie file you cannot play with video, then click Open **** 3. Click View tab then select Sheet  to view all the required codecs for this video

The information pane will show you Format, Codecs Video and Audio codecs. Below, are the codecs information for your Video

     4. Next to drop down codec bar is the Web button that when clicked will direct you to site where update to date codec is available to download.

Note: If can't find the codec you need you may convert the video to a supported format (eg. wmv) and then add it to your Windows Live Movie Maker project.

    1. Ensure that your video card drivers are up to date - Movie Maker makes extensive use of the video card GPU (graphics processing unit). The display driver affects the reliability, performance, and compatibility of the video card with various software.

To determine the version and video card driver date, run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag):

DirectX Diagnostic Tool• Click on Start button and type “dxdiag” in the Search programs and files box and press Enter key on the keyboard.

    • Click on the Display tab and you will see the driver details including the driver version.

    • If your video card driver seems outdated please go to the video card driver manufacturer and see if a newer version is available.

Let us know what happens afterwards.

    Thanks,

    Gerard G.
