I Just installed the November 2016 rollup update for Windows 7 and after the  restart I am locked out with a red screen " SECURE BOOT VIOLATION". Followed by instruction to PRESS OK to run the next boot device or enter directly to BIOS Setup etc. I  don't have a curser at this point so I am stuck.

Thanks for the quick response. This info gives me a better understanding of Secure Boot and should get me on the way to a resolution..Thanks again..

The problem was detected early on with Asus users and the search hits point to many such examples. If you can just get in and turn Secure Boot mode off (F2 or F12 should break into BIOS, F2 is usually Setup, keep hitting them at startup).

Your Setup menu should be able to guide you the rest of the way, the screens may vary by BIOS maker. Hitting ESC (escape) when in one section should get you out of that section and back to the previous level or main menu, F10 in the main menu prompts you to exit and save changes or exit without saving changes (if you want to look and leave it alone you exit without saving). Old style BIOS and UEFI are about the same in that respect.

Remember, you only need Secure Boot on when using 8.1 or 10. Windows 7 does not have this feature. If you ever plan to use 8.1 or 10 then it should be set to ON and the drivers should be installed anyway, regardless of OS.

Thanks for the info....I have an Asus Z97 Motherboard and I believe  I need to get into the BIOS and make some changes that have been identified with this problem. Not entirely sure what to do so any directions would be appreciated...

Read this Answers thread and see if it helps, and have an open mind, if you have UEFI "BIOS"  Windows 7 CAN HAVE THIS PROBLEM TOO.

Also search the web for variations of "Windows 7 secure boot violation" and avoid those that want to sell you something...you can turn off secure boot. It wasn't a requirement for 7, only 8/8.1 and newer Windows OS versions.

But it's entirely possible, if not probable that an Windows or other update (maybe Microsoft installed drivers for you) and you should avoid automatic updating in Windows Update, use the option to let you decide which updates you want to install in the Windows Update settings.

If you find that that option was changed recently...I would suggest doing a System Restore to a date prior to the latest update shown in the restore point list. When you look o0ver the hits in your search you might find one or more update numbers that were associated with the problem.

But the problem is with settings that may not/do not apply to Windows 7 and turning secure boot off should solve the problem.
