Windows Media player won't play DVD (VIDEO_TS folder with .IFO, .BUP & VOB files)

I have Windows Media Player  12.0 and Windows 10 on a Microsoft surface Pro 4

Nothing happens when I do all of the following:

  1. I double click the .IFO file in File Explorer which it shows is associated with Windows Media Player.
  2. I drag the .IFO files (or the VIDEO_TS folder ) onto the right side pane where it says “drag items here to create playlist”
  3. I right-click on a new playlist in the left side navigation pane, click open file location and select the .IFO file
  4. I drag .IFO files (or the VIDEO_TS folder ) onto the playlist name in the left side navigation pane

Other information:

  1. I try opening the Windows MediaPlayer troubleshooter. It finds nothing wrong.
  2. I have no problems with .MOV files.
  3. The Microsoft virtual assistant says to try to update the Codecs and gives a link of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Codecs-frequently-asked-questions, which redirects to a generic window for Windows help.

What am I missing?

Well, that was nice of Microsoft to remove a feature - is that supposed to be progress?

Anyhow, thx for letting me know

    Harold,

This is deliberate.  WMP in Windows 10 cannot play DVDs.

There is a DVD Player in the Windows Store but I have seen several reports in this forum by users who had trouble with it.  You could try VLC, many people find that trouble-free.

Isn't there someone who can help us with this problem?

Doesn't someone at Microsoft take responsibility for problems with the Microsoft program?
