Conflict between McAfee and Windows Defender

I have McAfee virus protection and its own also Windows Defender, also switched.

If I obey Widows Defender order that I switch it on, I then get a message from McAfee, demanding the same. If I then turn that on, up come the Windows Defender message.

How do I sort this out? I only want McAfee Defender on.

Moved from Windows 10

    Hi

When defender real time is turned off after a while it will automatically restart. The best way to disable defender used to be done in services but you can't do that now as you can't access any controls they are all greyed out, apparently a deliberate act by Microsoft in their never ending crusade to force their security ideals whether you want them or not. However having said that Defender is adequate for many users and it's built in and free so it's not forever bombarding you with ads, and it will run in unison with other anti malware such as Malwarebytes.

    Hi,

If you have installed another antivirus program, Windows Defender should turn off automatically. Alternatively, you can turn Windows Defender off by following the steps on this link.

Feel free to post back for the results.

    Regards.

Did you ask McAfee support (http://service.mcafee.com/) and/or in their forum (https://community.mcafee.com/community/home)?

    Try to

In case Windows Defender is still not disabled after doing the above steps, either

disable Windows Defender manually (see the Answer-marked post of GreginMich in thisthread)

    or

use a REG file (see Option 2 here:  Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 )

    Hi Romel

I don't want to turn defender off I was just commenting on how difficult Microsoft have made it should you want to.  In widows 7 it was simple to turn on or off.  We are adults quite capable of deciding our own choices on our own devices. I was thinking though if Microsoft are so concerned about security why not build in a security system that negates having to buy one of the many commercially. I mean you buy a new machine loaded with windows 10 and it comes with options to buy or have a free trial of Norton or one of the many others, does not inspire confidence in their own product does it? Why not put in a defender that is as good as say Kaspersky surely that is well within their scope.  Surely there is not some sort of cartel going on here, ha only kidding.
