Free Antivirus app for Window VISTA 32 BIT

Hi -

I'm REALLY FRUSTRATED trying - unsuccessfully - to install a FREE internet antivirus application in my laptop: Here's the specs of this computer.

Compaq Presario CQ50

AMD Athalon Dual-Core QL-60 - 32 BIT - @ 1.90 GHz.

3 Gigs of RAM

Genuine Windows VISTA Home Premium, Service Pack 2, 32 BIT.

There is NO OTHER antivirus software - from ANY vendor - currently installed.

All remenants of previously installed protection software has been removed with REVO Uninstaller and several runs of CCleaner Registry Cleaner.

Attempts to install the following applications - all downloaded from the developers site - ALL FAILED:

Avast Free Edition, AVIRA Internet Security, AVG Free, Windows Security Essentials.

Maybe someone has found a FREE Internet Security application - one that attaches a extension to Chrome, Firefox and/or Internet Explorer 9 - that they can recommend and provide a link to it.

Thanks in advance for any info and referral.

Patrick

Then I guess no one at the MMPC ever read...

    <QP>

Will Microsoft Security Essentials be supported after [Extended Support for WinXP SP3 ends on] April 8, 2014?

...If you already have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, you will continue to receive anti-malware signature updates through July 14, 2015. However, please note that PCs running Windows XP after April 8, 2014 should not be considered protected.[emphasis mine]

COMMENT: MSE, even if running with current Defs, cannot & will not protect a computer from the vulnerabilities addressed by the hundreds (thousands?) of critical security updates released since 08 April 2014 [i.e., MS14-022 & higher] for Vista, Win7, Win8.1 and Win10 but not WinXP.

Check Windows Updates. When was the last time MSE was updated in XP?

    One "No Trump".

Forget Microsoft Security Essentials. That will end when Vista support ends in April. Avast worked in XP after End of Life.

What program did you have installed before? Have you tried using
the authentic removal tool for that program?
