Windows 7 Startup Repair

Anonymous

When I turn my HP 2000 notebook on it shows a black screen. It gives me the option to use startup recovery or load windows normally.

When I load it normally, it shows the "starting windows" page and loads the logo, freezes for about 30 seconds, then sends me back to the options page. When I do startup recovery, it loads my files and stuff in about 5 seconds, then it gets stuck on this page

I don't really know where to go from here, and it's been like this since last night. Pressing any keys doesn't do anything. I don't have the windows 7 disk, as it was already installed when I got the laptop. Help???

Try Repairing The Windows 7 Installation

1a. Insert the Windows 7 DVD or repair disk and restart your computer. Boot from the DVD, press a key if prompted.

1b. Or if you don’t have disks press F8 instead repeatedly at boot and choose "Repair your computer" then go to step 4.

    1. Choose your language and click Next.
    2. Click Repair Your Computer and then select the operating system you want to repair.
    3. Click on the Startup Repair link from list of recovery tools in System Recovery Options.

    If that doesn't fix it:

    Hi,

Check with HP Support, their on-line documentation and drivers, and ask in their forums about

StartUp Repair often works from a Windows 7 Installation Disk or Windows 7 Repair Disk

when it does not from Recovery or a Recovery Disk. If needed how to make a Windows 7

Repair Disk is below. A Repair Disk can be made on any computer with a CD burner running

XP, Vista, or Window 7 as it uses no files from the Host computer.

You can try some of these in Safe Mode - repeatedly tap F8 as you boot.

If you do not have a Windows 7 disk you can borrow a friends as they are not copy

protected. Your System maker will also sell the physical DVD cheap since you already

own Windows. Also you can make a repair disk on another computer.

Try Startup Repair - (If at ANY point you gain some but not full access to Windows come

back and try Startup Repair again.)

No sorry .. tried all of that and more but it's still not working. The HW is fine and I can install a 2nd copy of windows and boot it but the original installation still fails to load fo no particular reason. The files are there (as demonstrated using 2nd install and checking original file system) but Windows can't find itself. Can Windows please diagnose itself and tell me what's wrong. Boot repair fails. Manually fixing boot/mbr/bcd etc hasn't worked so far but did get further past a few boot messages. They have had a long time to work on the boot process and it's a complicated mess not even Microsoft knows what they are doing.
