McAfee Live Safe. Real Time Scanning won't work. Error with dll's when installing.

I recently did a complete factory reset on my Dell N5110 laptop. Running Windows 7 Home Edition, SP1.

For Virus protection etc, I used to use Norton, but this time I thought I'd try McAfee.

So I have installed LiveSafe. However, when it was installing, I had 4 error messages pop up. It did not seem to stop the installation though.

Once installed, the program warned me that 'Real Time Scanning' was not active. Despite attempts to switch it on, it simply would not turn on. I contacted MsAfee support, who were very good, and remotely reinstalled the program, only to see the same error messages, and the same end result. After a bit of investigation, he came back and told me that it looks like it is an issue with Microsoft, not with the McAfee installation software, or LiveSafe.

The four error messages I get are all exactly the same words, the only difference was the title of the dialogue box.

The message is this:

'The procedure entry point Directories could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll'

The title in the dialogue box for each one was: (I can't remember which order they came in)

MCVULA~1.EXE - Entry Point Not Found

MCVULU~1.EXE - Entry Point Not Found

QcShm.exe - Entry Point Not Found

McVulCtr.exe - Entry Point Not Found

Can anyone advise what the problem may be, and how I solve it.

Failing that, if anyone knows where I should perhaps direct this question, to get the best results.

Many thanks,

Stuart.

    Hi again Robert,

I have finally manged to get all the Windows Updates installed. Because I had done the factory reset, windows had load and loads of updates that it wanted to install! (at least 200 plus!) So I left my laptop on one evening and just let it 'do its things', and after several hours it had downloaded all the updates. Then it was another long wait when I reset the computer and all the updates get installed and configured!

After all that, I noticed that the 'Live Scan' was working. There was no error message, and it was turned on.

So I can only presume that one of the updates made a difference which solved my issue.

I did notice that off the 200 plus updates, there was quite a few the failed to install.

I have included a snap shot of the worst section from the list of updates, and you can see that this whole page of updates failed. I'm going to give them another try just in case, and I might try installing them individually if all else fails. If you have any advice, you are welcome to help with this matter also!

So my initial problem is now solved, so thank you very much for your help.

It really has been much appreciated.

    Stuart.

According to my system, my Window is up to date, and there are no updates to install.

    Okie-dokie...

But what about McAfee LiveSafe & realtime scanning?

Chances are (99.99%) your Dell computer came with a McAfee free-trial preinstalled. When you did the factory reset, the free-trialware was installed again. Did you (a) uninstall the McAfee free-trialware AND THEN (b) download/run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool & reboot (c) BEFORE you installed McAfee LiveSafe?

Did you install or attempt to install any Windows Updates (including IE11) before you installed McAfee LiveSafe?

    Thank you PA Bear.

I must admit that I don't recall a McAfee free trial being pre installed. But that could just be my bad memory!

If you are that sure that it did, then I will trust your opinion more than I trust my memory.

And because I did not even think about trialware being present, I wouldn't have uninstalled it before installing McAfee LiveSafe.

In answer to your second question, I did not install any Windows Updates before installing LiveSafe.

Can you recommend any further actions to help resolve the problem?

(I have started by Installing any Windows Updates).

Thanks you for taking the time to help me.

    It's much appreciated.

    Stuart.
