Trying to rename ".minecraft" folder in AppData causes Windows to believe .minecraft is a file extension and demands filename

With the way the Minecraft game files are organized, I have to keep multiple .minecraft folders with different surnames to know the difference between them. The folder Minecraft draws it's files from is the ".minecraft" folder. When I want to switch what game files it is using, I rename the original one, then i have to delete the nickname i gave to another one. In this case, say I want to use ".minecraft microsoft". I try to rename it to ".minecraft", and then it stops me. The only workaround i know of is to make a new folder, name it .minecraft, then move the files from one of the other .minecraft folders and then delete the empty folder to not clutter it up. I guess what I'm asking is if it is a way to disable Windows from reading anything beginning with a "." from being read as a file without a name.

Edit: Ignore what's written in italics, that doesn't work either. I have to start the Minecraft launcher and get it to download the game files, then delete them to have a blank ".minecraft" folder.

I'm afraid you can't do that. It thinks you are giving the folder a file extension and no file name. If you try you will get an error message.
