Flight Simulator X Windows 10 Compatability

Anonymous
2016-10-11T08:03:11+00:00

I fully understand that flight Simulator X is not supported by Windows 10 and that is why I'm here, to request support and updates on flight Simulator X.

Flight Simulator X by it's self works( including multiplayer) but I encountered problem when I installed Acceleration expansion pack, No dialog to activate it poped up causing it to go into a sortive 'demo mode' where I can not access multiplayer (although single player works). If I want to access multiplayer i have to uninstall Acceleration expansion pack and install the service pack 2 and vice versa to get Acceleration to work (uninstall service pack 2 (as apparently acceleration has it included) and install acceleration).

pretty much a 'service pack 3' that would fix any capability issues Fsx has with windows 10 would be great.

I know that there's nothing wrong with my FSX DVDS. But even when I insert disk one and I go to open, then down arrow to setup then tap my applications key once again and go down to run as administrator, it gets to 60 percent then freezes on me.

I've tried both the repair and the uninstall options and neither one helps me out.

I was on the phone yesterday with the Microsoft Disability hotline since I'm blind and they couldn't even figure out why we couldn't install FSX onto a win 10 anniversary pc.

Yes I am blind and I fly thanks to the following three programs that work hand in hand together.

    1. FSX.
    2. FSUIPC.
    3. The program from Canada called Its Your Plane or IYP for short.

Their web page address is at

    www.itsyourplane.com

Now, you can watch you tube videos from that web site of blind pilots flying.

Or a friend of mine the visimmer out on you tube is also showing people how blind people are enjoying FSX.

I probably would go out to steam.

But the company Valve Corporation, the owners and designers of the online gaming world known as steam,  will not return phone calls nor will they return e-mail letters.

Because steam is not blind friendly.

We even have petitions out on the internet if you do a search, something on the lines of:

(petitions for Making steam more accessible for the blind)

    You'll see several petitions.

But even though valve is in the United States and we have the ADA, they will not return phone calls which when you call you just hear a answering machine, now do they return e-mail letters

So, if you find one of our petitions, please sign it and add your two cents why steam should be blind friendly and listen to our advice on how we can make it blind accessible please.

    Very Thankfully Yours,

Ron Kolesar a very Frustrated FSX pilot running windows 10 anniversary.

I have only used a couple of the Microsoft series of Flt. Sims (for Win95 and FSX), so can't give you an informed judgement of the other Sims.

Here are three that have received good reviews:

    FSX-Steam Edition:    https://steamcommunity.com/app/314160

    Prepar3d:     http://www.prepar3d.com/

    X-Plane:    http://www.x-plane.com/

You can also check out comments on them at Flt. Sim Fora, such as:

    Avsim:    http://www.avsim.com/index.php/

    FlightSim.com:    http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/content.php

Fly Away Simulations:    https://flyawaysimulation.com/    to name a few.

Here you can see what other Sims (other than what I've mentioned) are being offered, their costs, reviews, integration with Win10, stability, add ons availability, etc.

You mentioned you don't need 'extreme realism'.   I suppose there are the gaming type of Flt. Sims or even MS Flight

(http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9800616).  This is free to download but you're limited to one light aircraft and flying in the Hawaii region. You can register and purchase other aircraft/scenery I understand.   However, this is not a simulator in the strictest sense as it has many limitations.

However, I would still stay with good 'ol FSX with its two SPs, particularly if it's running well on your system.

Reinstalling FSX to the root of C:\ is only for a better installation location, not to fix your non-activation of Acceleration. Your 1-80004005 error is a separate issue.   Were you able to identify the Registry's identification of FSX via the second Registry key and sub keys I gave you?

So the problem still remains in your Registry not being correct in relation to no Upper Filters entry and reinstallation of FSX is not correcting this.   I have no other suggestions other than to create a new account in Windows for the purpose of installing FSX through it.   There is also what's called a Hidden Admin account in Windows:  you can enable it by doing this:

Type this command line in Command Prompt & hit Enter:

            Net user administrator /active:yes

To disable this account, type this command line & hit Enter:

            Net user administrator /active:no

After creating the account (whether a new one or hidden one), you will need to reboot the computer and then enter Windows via your selected account.   Then try installing FSX via that account - hopefully something in the original account was hindering FSX's installation. Also, remember to first remove all references to FSX in all their locations in:

    1.   Your Drive letter:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX
    2.   Your Dive Letter:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
    3.   Your Drive Letter:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX

If FSX does install and you can activate both it and Acceleration via those other accounts, then check that it works also via your normal account.  If so, and it should, then you can choose to delete the secondary account.

Sad that the error surfaces again.   That Error code does apply to the Activation issue.   I am still perplexed as to why the Registry key and sub keys are missing entries.

When you did a clean install of FSX (i.e. removed it completely and checked the various folders for leftover entries), did you install FSX without installing anything else?   And did the activation prompt for FSX (it may not come up since you've reinstalled it so often now) come up for it?

I would be interested to see if you did the above again, took a flight in FSX (i.e. without SP1, 2, or Acceleration installed) and then exited completely.   Then go to that Registry Key and see if it has changed at all.   If it hasn't, then it appears that there is some other error in Windows that is giving an incorrect Registry Key/sub keys.

I know it will be a pain to do it all over again, but it is mystifying as to what is going on there.

Okay Steve, so the System File Checker didn't fix anything.   So you then did a re-install of FSX:  at the outset of the installation process it will ask whether FSX should be installed to the default location (i.e. Program Files(xxx)).   It is here that you can opt to install to another location.   That post you saw referring to SP2, was probably referring to those (like myself) who only have FSX Deluxe with SPs 1 & 2.   As you have FSX + Acceleration Pack, then the SPs are included in that pack.

Therefore, after you've done the above, where do you now stand:  is FSX (without Acceleration) installed and running on your System?   And the original problem in your Opening Post still stands?

I'm afraid that the only fix for FSX and Acceleration activation is what I suggested above:  amending the Registry entry. The fact that you are not seeing that particular entry is concerning and possibly an installation path problem.

Try going to this Registry entry:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\microsoft games\flight simulator\10.0.   You should have entries here for your installation and on mine there are five (viz. (Default), CDPath, LandID, PID, SetupPath).   Check that your SetupPath is what you have installed FSX on.   If that is correct, then at least the Registry is recognizing your FSX installation but for some reason not showing up correctly at the earlier Registry Key.

There is also a software available called TweakFS Registry.  Amongst its functions, it repairs the path in the Registry. However, it does examine and alter your Registry - you need to feel comfortable using it, and if so, back up your entire Registry first.   You can find it here:

    https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/18872/fsx-tweakfs-registry-utility-v121/

    All the best.
