Converting Microsoft Store Movie to DVD

My problem:

I recently purchased The Phantom Tollbooth from Microsoft Store. I am trying to view it on my tv through my homegroup connected Sony Blu-ray player.  Although I can see the file on the player's 'desktop', it will not play it...claiming the format (mp4) is not supported.  I attempted converting the file from mp4 to dvd & mpeg with 5 different converter programs to no avail (they either refuse to acknowledge the format, claim the file is corrupted, or crash once they attempt to begin the conversion).  I can play it on my PC.

My questions: Is the file playable on a non-Windows machine? Is there a program or app that will allow the conversion? Do I need to re-purchase the film from Amazon or pirate it from somewhere?  And if so, does Microsoft take returns?

My grandsons are coming this weekend and I really don't see them sitting on my lap for 3 hours to watch the film.

thanks for any help

It's not possible to burn the file to a DVD or play it anywhere other than the Microsoft Movies & TV app.  This is the same as if purchasing it from any other digital marketplace.  If your laptop and TV have HDMI connections, you can connect your laptop to the TV that way in order to view it on the TV.

Other options would be buying an Xbox 360 or Xbox One and using those connected to the TV.

If you want to inquire about a refund, you'll need to contact http://support.xbox.com

Please refrain from discussing piracy and circumventing DRM on these forums.

Thanks for the response.  The piracy comment was sarcasm (doesn't carry well online, I guess).  So, I guess my only viable options are to carry my PC (no laptop) down (& then back up) a flight of stairs or get a refund....Definitely not what I had assumed when I originally purchased the item.  :(

And, if what you say is true regarding other digital marketplaces, this is the last time I ever buy a movie online.

Since this issue has nothing to do with Xbox, why are you sending me there for a refund?
