IP Address is 192.168.254.22. However, when I lose internet, the IP Address usually changes to 169 but sometimes it stays at 192.
LOCAL AREA CONNECTION CHANGES FROM 192 TO 169
I have Windows 7, wired, and Norton Internet Security. To gain internet access when first getting on the computer each day, I must restart my modem (I do not have a router). I then have internet for about 1 or 2 hours and then get disconnected. Troubleshoot says, "Can't identify active network. The Local Area Connection does not have a valid IP configuration." The address for the Local Area Connection changes from 192 to 169.
If I turn my modem off for 10 seconds and reset it, I get internet access again and when I check the Local Area Connection it goes back to 192. But, I lose internet connection again after 1 or 2 hours and Local Area Connection says 169.
What can I do to fix this problem? My service provider recently gave me a new modem to try but I am still having the same issue. Why is the Local Area Connection changing from 192 to 169 every hour or two and what can I do to prevent this from occurring so I can have full time internet access? Any suggestions?

2017-02-17T21:37:00+00:00 If you have to reset the router every day just to get internet access, then you lose your proper IP after an hour or so and only resetting the router fixes it again, it sounds like an issue with the router.
Your ISP will be reluctant to admit that of course, but do you possibly have another device that you could try on the same line and see if IT loses connection the same way?

2017-02-17T18:31:00+00:00 Sorry, for the delay in getting back to you about this, I've been ill. I did this but still have an issue with my internet connection and local IP address. Can't hold internet for more than an hour or two at a time. Going to try replacing some wires and cables this weekend and see if that helps. My service provider made a few more changes to the modem but so far it hasn't helped. We are perplexed!!
