- Make ABSOLUTELY sure your cable is not only a micro usb charging cable.
- I had the same issue and my kindle showed as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" in the device manager. The only solution was to REBOOT my kindle : unplug from computer, long press (at least 10 sec) the kindle will take a minute to do a full reboot. Try to plug it again : TADA ! problem solved (for me).
Kindle and windows 10
I have a major problem with my kindle, it worked in windows 7 on my old computer now I have a new computer upgraded to windows 10 and it will not connect/show on it so I cannot transfer files to it.
I have tried Amazon both webchat and direct phone conversation and they both say that it is a Microsoft problem.
It keeps asking for drivers but there are NO drivers that I can find anywhere on the internet or on Amazon Kindle. I have tried every option that I can find and noting works. I even did a factory reset and that didn't work with a re-registration.
Does anyone in Microsoft have an answer because Amazon insist that it is your problem and not theirs (the person I spoke with even denied every hearing of this problem before!!?)

2017-02-05T18:06:17+00:00 Dear Gina Cool
If I download kindle for pc it just means that I can read my kindle books on my pc. This is not what I want to do.
If you re-read my post it has nothing to do with Kindle for a pc but connecting my actual kindle to my pc so that I can transfer files.
I cannot update anymore as I have the latest update on my kindle.
So, Microsoft, any answers because Amazon are adamant that it you problem and NOT theirs.

2017-02-02T16:36:52+00:00 What is the model of your Amazon Kindle?
Some users report, if you are not using the original micro USB cable that came with your Kindle, it won't work.
Some users have reported the fixes in the following article work.

Microsoft had released some updates that resolved compatibility issues with the Kindle. Make sure you install the latest Windows Updates - Start > Settings > Update & security > Windows Update
Also make sure you download and install the Kindle for PC software:

2017-12-11T12:48:09+00:00 Hello, as per the ts issue which is similar to mine - it will not connect/show so it does not show up even when "shown hidden devices" is enabled. Similarly this is happening in Win10
