Movie Maker - importing .MOV (MOD) files

Hi

I just bought Movie Maker to edit ten years from a camcorder (JVG - Enviro). The downturn was therefore great when it turned out that I only got the audio files into the editing system. The camera operates with MOV (MOD) files. Hope it's an easy way to fix this. Frustrating when one has looked forward to arrange your recordings and not getting anywhere.

I believe the .MOD files from a JVC camera are encoded in MPEG-2 format. That requires a licensed MPEG-2 codec be present in order to edit. Assuming you are on Windows 8 or later, there is no included MPEG-2 codec so you can't edit MPEG-2 video using Movie Maker.

Your best bet is to find a video conversion program and convert the .mod files to a supported format like .wmv or .mp4.

Microsoft Movie Maker is offered at no charge and is part of Windows Essentials 2012.

If you have purchased what you believe to be Microsoft Movie Maker from a non-Microsoft third party site, cancel your credit card payment, manually uninstall the software, and run a scan of your virus checker.

Windows Essentials 2012 is free; there is no paid or trial version.
