Win 7, programs NOT RESPONDING

Something is running in the background and even Task Manager shows NOT RESPONDING.  This happened several years ago and I turned something off and did not have a problem until the recent windows upgrade.  Can't remember what I did to make this stop.  I have to keep doing a hard shut down and after it comes back up it will work normally for a while, then back to light staying on and not responding again.  PLEASE HELP. ;)

LOL, Yes I know how to end the programs with task manager, I don't want to end them I want them to work and if I wait several minutes they will work, then go back to being NOT RESPONDING and since TASK MANAGER also tells me it is NOT responding it makes it HARD to close a program with it.  I just need to find the program that is running in the background and SHUT IT DOWN.

    thanks for trying to help

System File Checkertool works with Windows 7 as well.

Give it a try and update us on the status.
