Cannot access gpedit.msc

There are few reasons why you are unable to access the Group Policy Editor or the gpedit.msc command in Windows. To better understand the issue, kindly answer the following questions:

• Have you accessed the said command before?
• What edition of Windows 8/8.1 do you have? Can you clarify if you're using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1?

You can also open the Local Group Policy Editor by trying these methods:

Method 1: Use the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

1. Open MMC. Click Start, click in the Start Search box, type mmc, and then press ENTER.
2. On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
3. In the Add or Remove Snap-ins dialog box, click Group Policy Object Editor, and then click Add.
4. In the Select Group Policy Object dialog box, click Browse.
5. Click This computer to edit the Local Group Policy object, or click Users to edit Administrator, Non-Administrator, or per-user Local Group Policy objects.
6. Click Finish.

Method 2: Use the Run command.

1. Press the Windows Key and R key simultaneously to turn on the Run command dialog.
2. Type gpedit.msc in the empty box and click OK.
3. In the Command Prompt window, type gpedit.msc and click Enter.
4. Turn on Group Policy Editor through searching**.**

Accessing gpedit.msc is only available on devices running Windows 8.1 Pro using an Administrator account. If you are, then the issue might be caused by malwares which can corrupt files in the Registry Editor. I tried to access the MMC but it can't. It always shows 'File error 65535'. I disabled the windows defender as an attempt to

fix it but suddenly it needs to be activated by an administrator.

As a solution to all of this, I have to reset my PC. I have no choice but to do that. Thanks for the help anyway.
