Update KB3125574 (Convenience Rollup) & PACE License Support

I tried to install an update to software called the UVI Workstation (it's for making music), but then it gave an error once it would attempt to install the PACE software (which is part of the iLOK License Manager).

It said that it needed an update to Windows 7 and what I should do is to let it install all important updates.

However, I already always do that, so there's nothing to install through Windows Update by default.

You can find the following instructions on websites such as for iLOK and AVID:

"If you do not have KB3125574 or KB3033929 then you will need to download the KB3125574 update from Microsoft's website https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3125574 and install it."

I indeed did NOT see in it my Windows' update-list, so ultimately I should install update KB3125574.

Doing a search for the update, I end up on these pages:

It looks like it's some kind of "convenience roll-up" package of about half a gigabyte. But I'm wondering;

First, why was it never installed automatically? Considering this was supposedly an "important update".

And second, what all is in this package or what would it change in the system?

Should I be installing this just for the PACE software? It seems quite excessive and there's no way that all of that data is necessary (Is there?). Isn't there a smaller update or file that will give the same support that the PACE-software needs?

I worry about this because I don't want to risk changing my system in such a way that various other software might STOP working.

And note that I've been running this same install since before the update came out, and I've installed updates very regularly throughout the years. - Yet it never seemed to show up for me and it has also been running fine.

Do updates like this only show up when it detects it's really necessary or something? - If it happens like that, I don't want to force an update and, again, risk the stability of whatever software the changes might affect.

I mean, if it affects the PACE Licensing Software (and how), it might be able to affect other software as well, also in a negative way.

So is anyone able to inform me on this "important convenience rollup update" (and how it would affect PACE) more in-depth?

Me?... No, I've been refusing to manually install Windows-updates to my system that runs fine until I know for sure I won't break anything by doing so.

I really need to update the UVI Workstation because it suddenly stopped being detected in my DAW.

But since PACE updated their software for iLOK at some point, this deal with the Windows Update came up.

However, the Windows Update was never installed, despite my computer being on the same installation since 2010 just fine, with updates, skipping updates, whatever... So I'm hesitant to force it and potentially freak out the system.

If not the system, maybe certain pieces of software won't be happy with it. You never know.

That's why, again, I'm asking for specifics to the updates. What on Earth are these for that they affect the PACE-software? - And why the heck do the developers of the PACE-software make it rely on those old updates??

It's all so counter intuitive... There goes the convenience of iLOK without a dongle... Right out the Windows...

why do you suggest Update KB3033929?

They're suggesting it. ""If you do not have KB3125574 or KB3033929".

They're mentioning KB3125574 because it includes KB3033929. You don't need the Convenience Rollup if you have KB3033929.

So, the developers of the PACE-software are lying about that the update should show up on the "Important Updates" tab?...

Also, why do you suggest Update KB3033929? What is it for?...

If you're also suggesting that because I didn't get the update, that's not the concern. I don't care that it didn't show up because my system in general runs fine.

The concern is with what the update DOES... Nobody seems to either know or want to tell me.

    Isn't there a change-log for each update??

That's all I'm asking; What does update KB3125574 do or change?

And should I force it if my system is running fine?

(Obviously apart from the PACE-software. But if the Windows-update can affect one piece of software positively, it could also affect any other software negatively.)

    Hello,

There are times that some updates are not being installed automatically. The good thing is that Microsoft Catalog is always available for you to see and install the updates that you need manually.

To answer your questions, there are four known issues that has a troubleshooting steps on each and everyone of them in the Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 update. Asking specifically on what could be the effect to your UVI Workstation, it's something that we need to figure out after installing the KB3125574.

We suggest that you install the updates manually and check what could be the result afterwards.

Don't hesitate to let us know the status of your concern so we can provide further assistance.

First, why was it never installed automatically? Considering this was supposedly an "important update".

    Because it ain't one.

By any means start by trying the alternative the prompt is offering - KB3033929.
