I tried to install an update to software called the UVI Workstation (it's for making music), but then it gave an error once it would attempt to install the PACE software (which is part of the iLOK License Manager).
It said that it needed an update to Windows 7 and what I should do is to let it install all important updates.
However, I already always do that, so there's nothing to install through Windows Update by default.
You can find the following instructions on websites such as for iLOK and AVID:
"If you do not have KB3125574 or KB3033929 then you will need to download the KB3125574 update from Microsoft's website https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3125574 and install it."
I indeed did NOT see in it my Windows' update-list, so ultimately I should install update KB3125574.
Doing a search for the update, I end up on these pages:
- https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3125574/convenience-rollup-update-for-windows-7-sp1-and-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1
- http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB3125574
It looks like it's some kind of "convenience roll-up" package of about half a gigabyte. But I'm wondering;
First, why was it never installed automatically? Considering this was supposedly an "important update".
And second, what all is in this package or what would it change in the system?
Should I be installing this just for the PACE software? It seems quite excessive and there's no way that all of that data is necessary (Is there?). Isn't there a smaller update or file that will give the same support that the PACE-software needs?
I worry about this because I don't want to risk changing my system in such a way that various other software might STOP working.
And note that I've been running this same install since before the update came out, and I've installed updates very regularly throughout the years. - Yet it never seemed to show up for me and it has also been running fine.
Do updates like this only show up when it detects it's really necessary or something? - If it happens like that, I don't want to force an update and, again, risk the stability of whatever software the changes might affect.
I mean, if it affects the PACE Licensing Software (and how), it might be able to affect other software as well, also in a negative way.
So is anyone able to inform me on this "important convenience rollup update" (and how it would affect PACE) more in-depth?
