QWEASD and spacebar not working on Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000‏

I bought a Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000 and after installing the latest drivers through the MS website, I realized that the QWEASD keys and spacebar were not working. Though the mouse and all other keys (even the function keys) were working fine, I assumed it was a mechanical defect and returned the device.

The store gave me a new device (same model) and after installing the latest drivers I again realized that the QWEASD keys and spacebar were again not working. This may be a very, very rare coincidence, but of course I suspect that there's a bug or something. I am using the keyboard on my Vaio S-series laptop, using Windows 7 64bit.

Thanks,

Marco

I have the Wireless Comfort Keyboard 4000, and I was disgusted by the fact that mine stuck. Then, I found this video on YouTube, which may help you. The design is slightly different (his is an Alienware keyboard), but the idea is that the metal prongs are not in the correct location. I can only guess it is an assembly issue.

I hope pointing this out helps someone out there, struggling.

    Hi Sandeep,

Nothing you suggested above worked for me. I'm having the same issue as Marco pointed out above.

However, what is different about my situation is that I've had this keyboard/mouse combo (MS Combo 5000) since August 2012 and its been working wonderfully....until yesterday January 10th. The QWESD + spacebar + ctrl button...simply DO NOT WORK (among other keys as well)

    I've tried everything:

    a. new batteries

    b. uninstall/reinstall of drivers

    c. restart/shutdown of machine.

    d. Different USB ports.

EVERYTHING I'VE TRIED. It is rather frustrating as I've been a long time fan of MS wireless kb/mouse combo's since 2003.... and now in 2013 is the first time I've experienced an issue...

What boggles my mind is that this hardware was working perfectly for almost 6 months. And now, the keys don't work and the symptoms are exactly the same as what others have posted online, like Marco above, and this gentleman here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_7-hardware/wireless-comfort-keyboard-5000win7x32some-keys-not/d27888a6-354b-43e4-bf0f-c3f5aab8dd10?auth=1

I'm on a Lenovo Thinkpad (its a work machine so don't know the full specs and at this point don't think it matters) and am running Win7 32 bit.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE?

    Hi Shuf,

I definitely understand how frustrating it would be when you are not able to work with the device you have paid for.

I would suggest you to contact Microsoft Hardware:
