Laptop says it's connected but won't load any websites

My laptop says it’s connected to the internet, but when I open my browser and go to a website it attempts to load before saying “This site can’t be reached [website] took too long to respond”. When I run the troubleshooter it says “resource is online but isn’t responding to connection attempts.” It was working a couple days ago. This problem started yesterday. I have tried everything I could think of but nothing has worked. I don't know what to do. Any ideas???

    Hi Mackenzie,

There are a lot of possible reasons why you're getting that error message. For us to determine its cause, we'd like to know the following information:

    • Were there any significant changes made on your PC prior to this?
    • Which browser are you using?
    • Does the issue only occur with a specific browser?
    • Do you have a stable internet connection? Are you connected to the internet via a wired or a wireless connection?
    • Is there any third-party software installed on your PC?

Meanwhile, you might want to try the following methods for possible resolution:

METHOD 1: Use Microsoft easy fix solutions.

You've mentioned that you have tried the troubleshooter, you might want to try other Windows troubleshooters found in this article. Download and run the file to help resolve software issues automatically. Check these links:

    METHOD 2: Reset Internet Explorer.

This is applicable only if the issue occurs with Internet Explorer. However, please be informed that by doing this, all your browser's Favorites/ Bookmarks, Saved passwords, Other Settings, and History will be deleted. We recommend that you save all the important sites and information you need because this action is irreversible. To reset Internet Explorer, click this link.

METHOD 3: Perform a clean boot.

This helps eliminate software conflicts by starting Windows using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. See How to perform a clean boot in Windows for instructions

Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting of the KB article to boot the computer in normal startup after troubleshooting.

METHOD 4: Reset your TCP/IP to its default settings.

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is the language a computer uses to access the Internet. Let's try to reset it to default settings, and see if it helps:

    1. Press Windows key + R, and then type cmd in the Run box.
    2. In the Command Prompt box, type the following commands, and then press Enter:
    • ipconfig /release
    • ipconfig /all
    • ipconfig /flushdns
    • ipconfig /renew
    • netsh int ip set dns
    • netsh winsock reset

Please let us know if the issue is resolved or you need any further assistance.
