    Hi John,

We would like to know more about your concern with adding Windows Media Player on My Default programs list. Kindly answer the following:

    • Is Windows Media Player installed on your computer?
    • Have you made any changes on your computer prior to this issue?

In the meantime, you can try these steps and see if this helps:

    1. Go to Control Panel.
    2. Click Programs.
    3. Click Default Programs.
    4. Select Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
    5. Click the file type or protocol that you want the program to act as the default for.
    6. Click Change program.
    7. Click the program that you want to use as default for the file type you selected. If you don't see Windows Media Player on the Other Programs list, click Browse to search for it and then click Open.
    8. Click OK.

Let us know how it goes and we'll assist you further if needed.

    Hi: Jaune Bel

    Thanks for your reply.

I have no problems with Windows and my CD/DVD/RW as I can play a musical CD manually,  Install a program with the RUN command or check the contents of a CD/DVD etc.

As I have said in the above post.  WMP is not listed as a default program on the*"Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Default Programs > Set Default Programs"*

    Hello: Jaune Bel

    • Is Windows Media Player installed on your computer? Yes,  Installed with Windows 8 Pro.  Still there after update to 8.1.
    • Have you made any changes on your computer prior to this issue? Changes ?.  Installed Programs, Run Disk cleanup, Occasionally System File Checker,  Virus scan weekly. etc.

Steps 1-8 Have done many times. Yes WMP is on the list, WAV file type WMP is the default.

But WMP is not listed as a default program on the***"Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Default Programs > Set Default Programs"***

What I am trying to accomplish,  when I put a musical CD in the DVD/CD/RW player I want windows to ask what I want to do with the disk.  Play, copy etc.If I put a program CD/DVD in the CD/DVD/RW it will ask what I want to do.  Why not a Musical CD?

Just checked I put a boot-able disk in the DVD/CD and windows did not recognize the disk.  So this now has changed.  Auto Play has all set to notify and ask what I want to do.

Help or Suggestions will be appreciated.
