Windows 8 Touch keyboard gone small

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if there is a fix or a way to make the touch keyboard in Windows 8 bigger. For some odd reason mine keyboard has shrunken down.

They only way for me to get the usual "big size" keyboard is to change the font to Medium - 125, log out then log back on, revert back to Small - 100, log back out again then back in which then the keyboard is back to normal. But then it looses it config and reverts back to a small touch keyboard again.

I noticed on my Surface RT that they keyboard shrunk when I added a 4th row of icons adding:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Scaling]

“MonitorSize”=”12.1″

and then going Settings -> Tiles -> Show More Tiles

I turned off show more tiles, and they keyboard was still small.  Then, I deleted the registry entry (restoring it, essentially, to the way it was before), and the keyboard came back to its proper size.  I haven't experimented, but I suspect that if you try different sizes with the entry, the keyboard size will change (smaller number should be bigger touch keyboard).

12.1 is a string.

On the new Win 10 mobile product, press and hold the space bar key to select it, then slide to right to change keyboard size.

    Hi Dena,

This is the screenshot of the problem

As you can see - the size of the keyboard has shrunk. It comes and goes. I just installed an updated WiDi driver on my laptop and when I rebooted the computer - this has happened.

If I use my laptop as a tablet (Lenovo X230T) the letters are way too small to hit.

Just wondering if there is a fix or a way to make the touch keyboard in Windows 8 bigger.

Where?   E.g. in Metro mode IE I seem to be stuck with a docked instance of it.   In Desktop mode I can at least drag it out of the way, even though it is not resizable and much bigger than I would like (for use with my pen).  It's only when using the TIP for writing that I would want it as big as it is.   Makes it awkward to see what you are doing.   And why can't it at least remember where I last put it?   More proof that any input but touch was ignored in the design of the W8 Touch Keyboard is that it only docks on my Touch Screen.  E.g. I tried docking it on my widescreen monitor (in order to use my mouse.)   If it had done that I was thinking that you probably couldn't ask for it to be any bigger.   <eg>

Have you tried using the OSK instead?  More functionality and it can be resized if you want.   Or in my case, fortunately made smaller and less obtrusive than the Touch Keyboard.

    Hi SnapCount,

On the on-screen keyboard, if you have an icon on the upper right hand side that looks like a half shaded square, tap that icon. That should allow you to change the size of the keyboard. If I misunderstood you issue, please provide the following information:

    • The make and model of your computer
    • When did you notice the change in the size of the keyboard
    • Whether or not the issue is present when logged into another user account on the computer
    • Use the steps here to post a screenshot of your keyboard
