Windows 7 Pro Patch for WannaCry

I'm trying to determine if Windows 7 Pro was patched to protect it from WannaCry. If there was a patch, I'm also trying to determine how to verify that I received the update including the patch. I currently don't have any new available updates in Windows Update.

Reviewing Security Bulletin MS17-010, I certainly see updates listed for Windows 7 that include the following KBs:

  • 4012212
  • 4012215

I can also see these updates in the Microsoft Update Catalog:

However, when I search my installed updates, I can't find either of these updates. This leads me to think that there are three possibilities:

  1. I had not installed updates via Windows Update in quite some time (until yesterday) so maybe the updates from MS17-101 were rolled into another update that I did receive like the following:
    1. May, 2017 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2 on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB4019112)
  2. In order to update Windows 7 Pro, you actually have to *manually* install the updates via Microsoft Update Catalog.
  3. There were no updates for my flavor of Windows 7 Pro for some reason.

Does anyone know which of the above options is accurate? Maybe there is another that I haven't come up with?

    Hi Sumit,

Looking at the article you referenced, all of the updates mentioned under Windows 7 start with "KB401". If I go to [Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > View installed updates] and search for "KB401"  I see the following updates:

    • KB4014504
    • KB4019264
    • KB4014511

If, on the other hand, if I go to [Windows Update > View Update History], I see *minimally* the following update that starts with "KB401". I say minimally because there is no way to search this view so I don't know if there are others that start with "KB401" that are shown in this view:

    • May, 2017 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2 on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB4019112)

From that first list, B4019264 matches one of the updates mentioned in the article you referenced:

    • 2017-05 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 (KB4019264)

The article states *"If any of the following patches are installed in Control Panel>Windows update>See installed updates, you are safe"*so it seems like my system is indeed patched. Is that accurate? Separately, is there a better way to search for updates that is all encompassing (above I had to search/view two different views)?
