Remote Desktop Connection does not leave programs running when signing off ?

Hi,

I remote desktop to a machine in another room locally and normally start Bittorent before closing remote desktop and leaving the machine downloading overnight. This used to work PERFECTLY. However now I see that when closing remote desktop connection the other pc just signs out completely closing all programs that are running !?

Why has this problem started ??

Thanks

I found your query as I had the same issue.

I eventually found an answer elsewhere.  I'm replying here in the hope it helps others!

Thanks to Nagarajan S R over in Stack Overflow this cured the issue for me...:

    Open gpedit.msc

Browse to Computer Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Windows Components --> Remote Desktop Services --> Remote Desktop Session Host --> Session Time Limits.

Enable the "Set time limit for disconnected sessions" and set it to Never

[I didn't have to do this but here for completeness]

and change the Local Security Policy under Local Policies->Security Options-> Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+Del" to Enabled, the problem disappears.

Thanks @chumbledev for sharing a potential solution. Hopefully this, along with the other posts here, can help others in the future. I personally, no longer use remote desktop connection anymore.

You have to change timeout settings for disconnected sessions.

Are you logging out or just closing the RDP session window.

Logging out will shut down any application running on the virtual desktop, closing the window via the X symbol should leave the desktop session active so allowing the programs to continue to run.

philcar, your problem is completely unrelated to the one being discussed in this thread.

    How so?

    The thread is titled :

Remote Desktop Connection does not leave programs running when signing off ?

This is exactly what mine does when disconnecting.

It just also does it when signing in - same as the user's post above mine.

You know,  sometimes it can help to expand a bit on existing knowledge of an issue. I didn't actually ask for any help if you care to read my post, I was just saying that - like the user with the post above mine - I have the same issue, but with mine it also has an additional issue of closing programs logging in via RDP.

This issue, as far as I can see, is related to resuming sessions with RDP.

It's hardly 'COMPLETELY UNRELATED'. Had I posted a picture of a giraffe, you'd be right.

I see from your profile that you are a regular around here and have a lot of helpful answers to your name. However this one is helpful to nobody at all.

Bumping your comment count up with unhelpful one liners when you've clearly skimmed the content of the thread is pretty bad. Even if you were right and it was completely unrelated, post a link to the forum guidelines about thread hijacking.
