Windows Defender Security Center on Windows 10 shows restart button that does not work

Windows Defender Security Center on Windows 10 says "Threats found. Please restart your device to remove them." and shows a Restart button. On clicking restart button, system does not restart.

On checking the scan history, do not see any threats listed under current threats nor under Quarantined threats.

Earlier Behavior:Win32/Gamarue.gen!A threat was reported that was removed.

Not sure if my system is protected from malware. Any thoughts on what I need to do clean malware (if any) from my system. I depend on Microsoft's Windows Defender to protect my computer. Isn't Windows Defender good enough?

Regards,

Raj.

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay in replying, I did restart the device using the power option on start menu.

After restarting, Windows Defender says no threats found and I see Win32/Gamarue.gen under quarantined threats.

Windows Defender continues to report Win32/Gamarue.gen threat almost daily and I restart the device every time.

I have tried Windows Defender Offline scan option and also tried Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. These did not reveal any threats.

Below are the details of the device and OS version/build:

    Device: Inspiron 3542

OS: Windows 10 Home Single Language

    Version: 1703

    OS Build: 15063.540

System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

    Regards,

    Raj.

    Hi,

This can be due to a software conflict related to Windows Defender. To better understand your concern, we'd like to know the following:

    • If you've already tried restarting your device using the Power option in the Start menu after you've experienced your concern.
    • The version and build of Windows 10 that you're using on your device. To check this, you can perform the steps posted on this link.

We look forward to your response.
