How to clean Microsoft Sculpt Keyboard?

Hey all,

I recently bought the Microsoft Sculpt Keyboard, numpad and mouse - I'm fairly pleased with those items.

However a month after use the keyboard looks in disarray, I can live with the smudges on the plastic but not with the discoloration and general dirtiness of the soft padding. I use them in my office, and this is not acceptable, as I have clients over often...

What products should I use to clean and maintain it?

Thanks in advance :)

Hello Ivaylo,

Thank you for posting your issue on Microsoft Community Forum.

I appreciate your concern towards maintaining your keyboard. Though your issue is not technical and that Microsoft does not provide any cleaning kits with the keyboards, I can certainly help you to locate a few instructions and guidelines on the usage and cleaning of the Microsoft Sculpt Keyboard. You may download the product guidein the following link and refer to the steps under usage and cleaning:

Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Keyboard

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-in/d/sculpt-comfort-keyboard

In addition to that, you may search with your favorite search engine for various cleaning kits online, applicable for the keyboard hardware.

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to post, in case you face any other issues with Windows in future. We'll be more than happy to assist you.

I don't understand why on this type of forum - people who work at the company always mark their reply as "answer."

I'm sure it has something to do with performance reviews - that they have to reply to a certain # of things & get marked the answer by a certain # - but often times the answers aren't actually useful AT ALL.

I feel that this is a legitimate question that Microsoft should have answered - but sadly, the other reply is much more useful.

I also have a Sculpt Comfort keyboard - and would like to know if I remove the keys if I'll have trouble putting them back on; I'm used to Dell keyboards which allow you to pop them off, clean, and pop them on, but since I paid over $100 for the keyboard set, I'm slightly hesitant to do that without knowing that I'll be able to put the keys back on... I'm sure not going to get an answer from someone like this though...

I don't believe belun was having a different issue - he was being humorous, and accepting the solution which was already given.

I'm going to have to try that out as well - this keyboard is awesome, but really does show usage on the palm rest...

I got mine beautifully clean in just a minute.  I used a sponge with the green scrub side attached to a yellow sponge.  I rinsed the sponge, wrung it out dry and added a tiny drop of Palmolive (I'm guessing any grease-cutting dish soap will do) to the corner of the scrubby side.

I squeezed the area where I placed the droplet and until I got a little lather.  I scrubbed the wrist area with the lathered scrubby corner using circular motions.  I then wiped across with the yellow sponge side.  Rinsed, squeezed dry and wiped with the sponge again to get the detergent out.  Patted with paper towels to remove the tiny bit of moisture left behind.

    Hope this helps.

    Christina
