File History EXCLUDES AppData and therefore EMAIL - WARNING TO OTHER USERS

Very annoyed Microsoft!!

I setup your File History service on advice from YOUR EMPLOYEES, went and bought a new external HDD, ensured there were "NO EXCLUSIONS" in the configuration AS INSTRUCTED BY YOUR EMPLOYEE.

Now I've lost a portion of my most important Outlook Data file.

At first I thought, oh good, AT LEAST I HAVE FILE HISTORY SETUP and can get my email from an hour ago.

BUT NO!!!!!!

Your service has decided to ignore the NO EXCLUSIONS option and exclude everything under:

C:\Users<profile>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Now I've lost a years worth of business email because of your misleading product!!

WHAT A JOKE!!!

More than 20 years of spending literally hundreds of thousands of dollars on Microsoft Products and I'm now ready to make the switch.

That's just arrogant. Also Windows is not a freebie software. Maybe Windows 10 upgrade is free but you still have to buy the previous version in the first place.

    Mike,

The issue here is the configuration of the product.

    Either:

    a) Give members the ability to select/unselect specific folders

    OR

    b) When you select a drive and have NO EXCLUSIONS then actually have NO EXCLUSIONS

    Pretty simple really.

Writing some kind of "it's your problem not ours" reply is just weak.

It's only weak because you don't like it. Nobody in business would ever entrust backing up mission critical files to a freebie in Windows.. or shouldn't..

There are lots of backup utilities around and some good information too, like this one..

You have to carry diligence above and beyond in the case of mission critical data stored on your computer, and in that sense it is most definitely your fault because you entrusted it to a freebie and never thought to check that it was fulfilling mission critical needs.. :-)

The PST files on my computer are the most valuable files I have, and it would be catastrophic for me if I lost them. For that reason, I have copies in five different locations, two on the boot drive and three locations away from this computer..

File History is a backup application that continuously protects your personal files stored in Libraries, Desktop, Favorites, and Contacts folders.

It is designed for home consumers and protects the files most important to that group of users. Anything used for mission critical or business purposes should be backed or copied independently by the user.
