How to stop Windows from generating random album art files

Hi,

I've had this problem for a while now. Windows or some other program on my computer automatically creates hidden files containing album art or song art in my music folders such as "Folder.jpg" or "AlbumArtSmall.jpg". I'm looking for a way to make this random generating stop because it's messing up my music library in Zune. I use MP3Tag and iTunes to apply song art manually to my songs, but the picture files that appear in the folders replace the song art that I added myself and it messes everything up.

In attempt to fix the issue I disabled all of the automatic album art downloading in "Tools > Options > Library" in Windows Media Player (just in case it was causing the problem) but still nothing. I tried deleting these files but they just come back again after a while. Any suggestions?

    Here is the REG file for the above setting. Copy these lines to Notepad and save the file with .reg extension. Double-click the file to apply the above settings automatically.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences]
    "LargeAlbumArtSize"=dword:ffffffff
    "SmallAlbumArtSize"=dword:ffffffff

    Hi,

    You may try to uninstall and re-install Zune software and check if this helps.

    Refer to this article to know more.

    Download or reinstall the Zune Music + Video software and Zune player software: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-other-devices/windows-phone-7/remove-and-reinstall-zune

    Thank you.

    Hi,

    I appreciate your help on this rough topic, but I reinstalled Zune and still the problem persists. It creates the same 46 "Folder.jpg" files over and over again (probably because there's one in each folder and I have 46 folders). Any suggestions or should I switch to iTunes?

    Hi,

    We appreciate that you have tried performing few troubleshooting steps.

    I have come across the similar post where in changing the firewall settings helped 5 users. I would have you refer to the steps suggested by yusufat from the following link.

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_7-pictures/prevent-windows-media-player-album-art-download/f8569375-ed32-4719-a9db-db6913c45b45

    Note: Even though the steps are for Windows 7 operating system, they are applicable to your scenario.

    Hope the information provided is helpful. Do reply, if you need further help.

    I read yusufat's steps and I wasn't sure about the firewall connection thing. I used Firewall's advanced settings to disable all incoming Windows Media Player related connections. Was that the right thing to do? Also, I added the two address he mentioned to the "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" file. Nonetheless, what I did still didn't help because I deleted all of the images from my music folders, and after I completed what yusufat said to do, I found new "Folder.jpg" images in there again.

    Despite the fact that these did not work, I made an interesting discovery. I deleted all JPG images from my music folders and I closed Zune (the program I use for listening to my music library). I then reopened Zune and about 50 new images "magically" reappeared in the music folders. I thought, okay, it's probably Zune's fault, but I'm still confused because I disabled Zune's setting for automatically retrieving song information from the Internet, so why is it still creating these song art images every time I open it?
