    1.  Put batteries in the keyboard

    2.  Plug the USB "dongle" into a USB port on the computer

    3.  The keyboard should work without any extra software, but if it doesn't, or if you want the extra features on the keyboard to work, download and install Microsoft's IntelliPoint 8.2 (mouse) or IntelliType Pro 8.2 (keyboard) software.

    See https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/support/troubleshooting/keyboard/supported-devices

You can download IntelliType Pro 8.2 from

You should have received a wireless receiver together with the keyboard.  Often, these look like a very small USB flash drive (thumb drive) but I don't know what the specific device for your keyboard looks like.

However, from the online pictures I've seen, it appears that your keyboard was sold as a set, together with a wireless mouse, and the receiver -- for both devices -- appears to be a much larger component that almost looks like a mouse itself.  See the left-most figure just above the words "Method 2" here:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/838398/troubleshoot-response-failures-in-wireless-keyboard-or-mouse

Similarly, in this picture of a slightly different Microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard, the receiver is the item on the left with the wire (that attaches to a USB port on a computer); the wireless mouse is on the right:  https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/C4oAAOSw6YtZUrtY/$_58.JPG

The receiver connects to the computer, not to the keyboard.

If you don't have a receiver, you can't use the keyboard.  Period.

Generally, you need to use the receiver sold with the keyboard (or mouse).  It's possible that with these older devices that require "synchronization" (see the Microsoft "troubleshooting" article linked above) you might be able to use a receiver purchased separately, but I'm not positive about that.

thank you so much for your response, but this is a "wireless" keyboard and I don't see anywhere to plug in a dongle at all.

I replaced the batteries as instructed, but there is no where to connect via a dongle for this keyboard.

HOW DO I CONNECT A WIRELESS KEYBOARD WITHOUT ANY FOBs OR DONGLE CONNECTION?

AGAIN, THIS IS A MICROSOFT WIRELESS MULTIMEDIA KEYBOARD 1.0A FOR WINDOWS 7 OPERATING SYSTEM ON PC.

    THANK YOU!
