DVD Player App for Windows 8.1

I am not a genius but I had hoped finding an app to revitalize my dead-in-the water DVD/CD player (R/W+, et al) that came with our GATEWAY

computer (Model DX-4831-07c). I think the '07c' means it came with Windows 7. I wished we had left it alone. I 'thought'(??) MicroSoft would know better and that we should upgrade to Windows 8; then 8.1. If  absolutely necessary, I will buy a new computer. I have searched the MS Store and did not find an app to bring the DVD back to life. Am I not seeing what's there because it does not say "DVD resuscitator for Windows 8.1"?

Bill Smithers was very helpful answering my first question. If you are out there Bill, HELLLL-P !!!!!!!!!!

    PA Bear

No hurry, okay. We have company for supper and my wife has said I must attend. I don't think she was asking me.

    We ran W 7 in 2013.

Both upgrades (7>8 then 8>8.1) were free.

Offer was open & downloaded W 10 w/o any trouble

Problems started with Registry first, then the LAN (we had COGECO) was a problem. Switched to BELL (NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!) but they sent tech & fixed all. Apparently problem was in-ground cable. FIBE [Fiber Optic] service now. GREAT! Complete turn-around from the beginning. After  all of the days of wrestling with BELL, then MicroSoft & then back and forth, it was decided that I had waited past the cut-off date to finish install, so upgrade to 10 was denied. But they were willing to give me a discount. Thanks a lot.

Affirmative. It shows in the Device Manager as:

    DVD/CD-ROM drives

       HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH41N

Hope that helps. I'm getting desperate.
