Hello all,

I just reset my laptop I have an Acer Aspire V, Intel HD graphics 5500 Nvidia Gforce 840M. I have updated drivers to windows 10 installed and uninstalled multiple times and have even gone to the extent of resetting my laptop for a second time and still no luck. Whenever I plug my TV in via HDMI it will automatically switch to 1920 x 1080 but when I unplug it, it will revert back. Please help me out I've been trying to figure this out all night.

*everything was fine before I reset, after I did it was stuck at 1366 x 768

    Hi Mitchell,

The resolution depends on how your display adapter is set and configure. To assist you with your concern, we recommend that you check the display settings of your laptop. To do this, follow the steps below:

    1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.
    2. Click on Advanced display settings.
    3. Under Resolution, click on the drop-down arrow and select 1920 x 1080.
    4. Under Multiple displays, click on the drop-down arrow and select Extend these displays.
    5. Click on Apply.

Let us know if the solution above works for you.

The issue is with the screen resolution in general im say that when i plug in my tv via hdmi the laptop screen resolution will increase and give me an option to go above 1366 x760 if i do not have a hdmi pluggd in then my highest option is 1366x760

    Mitchell,

Go to the Acer website and get all your hardware drivers from them including the display driver.  Windows update often misses or incorrectly identifies required hardware driver updates so you need to check with the computer maker to have any confidence that you have what they intend.

While you are there, check for any BIOS update.  That is also essential as it affects the operation of all your hardware.

Then go to Settings, System, Display, Multiple displays.

    • Whatever you can or cannot do there defines the limits of what your display hardware is now capable of.
    • Try out its behaviour for each of the possible external display configurations because they will be behave differently in practice - Extend, Duplicate, External display only.
    • If some functionality that you previously had no longer works then it might mean that Acer have not yet produced an updated display driver to cope with the latest Windows 10 updates.

    Denis

Since you've mentioned that the screen resolution no longer provide you the option beyond 1366x760, we'd like to ask the following questions:

    • What is the exact model number of your device? The model number is usually posted on the lower-right hand portion of your laptop.
    • Do you see the 1080p sticker posted on the lower left-hand portion of your laptop's screen?

We look forward to your response.
