MVI File playback with Windows Media Player

I am trying to playback MVI files through Windows Media player but since being forced to Windows 10, I only get sound and no video.  I'm not very technical and am looking for a simple solution.   Quite a few other things no longer work so my laptop is quite useless compared with when I was running Windows 7

    Thanks Ric,

Forced to Windows 10 - Auto update kicked it off and it was almost done by the time I realized.

Like I said - i'm not the most technically minded person in the world so I wouldn't know how to stop this.

Would I like to go back to WIN 7 - yes I would if I knew how to without having to re-install everything else.

I really didn't want to have to install yet another program to run videos but I guess I have no choice.  This is probably the most frustrating thing about Microsoft.  Move to our new OS it's full of fabulous new features.  Oh, but wait a minute, all that software that you spent loads of money on will no longer work.  I realise it's about being able to continue support but not eveyone wants to change.

I spent a significant amount of cash on Flight Sim 4 for instance - and now it won't run under Windows 10 except in a window - not much use for muti-screening - like I could on WIn 7.

Thanks for the answer, I will give VLC media player a go.

Not had any answers to this yet.

I've tried updating drivers but still the problem persists.

I have  considerable number of videos that i can no longer view taking up storage space without any understanding of being able to ever use these files again.

Can someone plèase help me find a solution so that i dont just end up deleting these?

Hi - I don't usually tackle video issues but in W10 certain features such as DVD playback are no longer available... in that case we normally recommend VLC media player which will play most file types.

What is more concerning is that you mention being 'forced' to W10 - how did that happen? - and that other things are also not working correctly... this may need to be posted in e.g. 'Repair/Recovery' if you are experiencing other issues. - Ric.

Many of us were a bit annoyed by the heavy-handed way in which readiness updates for W10 were rolled out - often on to machines which were not fit for purpose... e.g. my old Dell Inspiron laptop is listed by Dell as unsuitable for windows 10, but that didn't stop me getting the updates. In the end I took it off-line and did a factory reset... so it is no longer updated but works well with my older programs. I bought a new W10 laptop - which is fine - but for a lot of users upgrades have not gone well!

Hope VLC solves your problem - I notice that some MVI files I have will play directly on a TV from a USB stick - yet others (including some I created, bizarrely) refuse to play because of an 'unsupported codec' - ah well... - Best, Ric.
