    Hey there, Donna

Welcome to the Microsoft Comunity forums.

If your wanting to scan a document onto word. This is possible, however, everything that is scanned is imported as an image.

    To scan something, please:

    1. Place it into your scanner the apropiate way - generally faced down,
    2. Scan the document onto your computer,
    3. After it has scanned, a dialog box will apear asking you to save the document,
    4. After you save the document - click ok,
    5. Another File Explorer windo will pop up with the scanned image showing.

After you have done this, simply head over to Microsoft Office word and click onto insert and insert image. Locate your scanned document and click open. This will insert it into your document.

Please note, you will not be able to change what it says on an the document that has been scanned into your document.

Hope this helps, and please let me know how this works out.

    Regards,

You can't scan a document from a "normal" printer.

You need a printer that includes a scanning feature. Often they are called "multi-function" printers.

Then the printer instructions should include the model specific method for doing what you are asking for.

Also, please note, you will need a printer that has a scanner. Or a scanner. As stated by Ron. A normal printer will not scan a document.
