Camera (webcam) not working

I recently bough a new laptop (Lenovo Yoga 510) that runs windows 10. The camera hasn't worked at all since I bought it. When I try to open the camera it says it can't be found and gives an error code. I don't have antivirus so it can't be that and when I search in device manager I can't find the webcam so I can't carry out any of the other advice.

Managed to fix the issue with my camera sort of by accident. After taking my laptop in, to get it seen by the people at KnowHow and being told it had to be sent off for a factory reset it had an insanely simple fix. Turns out there's a button on the keyboard with a picture of a camera and clicking it made the camera work. It's F8 on my laptop not sure if this will for anyone else but I hope it does!

From what I saw of your specific laptop browsing the internet these few minutes, there might be a rather simple solution. (you probably already did this)

Hit Fn + F8 (or whatever key from F1 to F12 that has an image of a camera on it) and the camera should work, and should appear in Device Manager under "Cameras". You have to click View then select Show Hidden Devices to see it in Device Manager.

From my experience with my MSI laptop, the camera disappears completely when it is off, it shows no evidence in Device Manager or anywhere else on the computer. I would go so far as to say that it is "Driver-less" because I can (don't do this, just in case) uninstall its driver, hit Fn and F6 (my camera is attached to F6) twice and it comes back good as new.

THIS WILL BE DIFFERENT DEPENDING ON WHAT LAPTOP YOU HAVE! Just look for a key between F1 and F12 that has a camera (or something that sorta looks like one) hit Fn + that specific key and the camera will most likely start working.

If your laptop/desktop does not have a built in camera, this won't work.

This is the error message I keep seeing. The article you directed me to I've already tried but I can't do any of the things because it says to select the webcam but mine doesn't seem to appear in device manager.

We appreciate the information you've provided Alice. If the issue persists, we suggest that you start your computer in safe mode from the Advanced startup options. To start in safe mode, follow the steps below:

    1. Press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you'll need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
    2. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the safe mode option you want, and then press Enter.
    3. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.

After these steps, we recommend that you run the System File Checker or SFC. This is a utility tool built-in to your operating system to check any corrupted or missing system files and automatically repair them. Afterwards, try to uninstall and reinstall the camera/webcam driver once again.

Let us know if you need any further assistance, we would be glad to help you.

    Hi Alice,

One of the factors why this issue happened is because of the driver of the camera which conflicts its performance on the computer or an update you performed if you already installed the Fall Creators Update. Since you mentioned that you encounter an error code, can you please provide it to us? You may refer to this **link**on how to include a screenshot in your post.

Furthermore, we suggest that you check this **article**as a reference on how to troubleshoot your camera. You'll also see a link on how to troubleshoot Camera Roll in Windows 10 if in case you're using a Camera Roll.

Please keep us posted on the results so we can continue to assist you.
