Hello,
So, for the past two weeks my computer has tried to update, but has failed every single time. I thought it was weird, but maybe had more to do with my internet connection, so I didn't worry too much.
Then, I tried to play Steam and it told me the steamui.dll file was missing so I tried to uninstall and then reinstall the game, but the laptop told me that I needed to be an Admin....which, I am. I even went to control panel to verify, and yes, I am an
Admin.
I then tried to use some other programs and play a movie that I had downloaded a while back and it told me that the DDRAW.dll file was missing and I should redownload it. I had no idea what that meant, so I kind of ignored it and thought that if I just factory
reset my computer it would fix itself. So, I tried that, but my laptop WOULD NOT let me Factory Reset - it claimed it was a "code error".
So, it won't update, it won't run my programs or videos, and it won't reset.
So, then I did some research and was told to troubleshoot and I did and my laptop found some errors (in regards to the failed updates) and fixed them, so I thought that maybe if I could now update it would fix the whole problem....it did not. Despite Windows
10 saying that all problems had been solved, I still could not update.
My boyfriend told me to re-install the DDRAW.dll file and place it into the System32 file folder on my computer, so I tried that, but it told me that I need "System Permissions" to replace a file (as the new .dll file was trying to replace the old, apparently
corrupted one). My boyfriend then tried to get around the system by ending it in task manager, but the option to "end task" was grayed out and unavailable.
I have no idea what is going on with my computer. I've been told it could be from poor shut-down practices, and potential viruses. I do download some things here and there, but I always thought of myself quite safe when it comes to malware, so I didn't see
it being much of an issue.
If you have any info to help fix this, it would be greatly appreciated!
