Codec for Windows Movie Maker

I have Windows Movie Maker.  I try to watch videos in these formats .mov, .wmp, .mov4, but it says I need a codec required to play file on the computer.  Also, how do I watch and edit my mini DVDs in Movie Maker.  The DVD formats are .vob, .ifo., and .bup.  What do I do?  Thanks!

If you are looking to download and install a package of codecs, I would recommend one of the K-Lite codec packages available here. The standard package should be sufficient, but you may want to opt for the full package.

Once you've downloaded the package to your computer, you may want to right click the installation .EXE andRun as administrator to avoid any problem with the install

The video files on your mini DVDs are the .VOB files.

If you copy the .VOB files to a folder on your hard drive

and convert them to the .WMV format you can edit them

    in Windows Movie Maker.

There are many converters available on the net...

the following links are just examples. You may

need to experiment to find the best result.

    ***Proceed At Your Own Risk***

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System

Restore point before installing software or updates)

    1. Format Factory (freeware)

    (the 'direct link' is fastest)

(the file you want to download is : >FFSetup270.zip<)

(FWIW...when installing...you may want to uncheck

'all' the boxes on the final screen...even then it may

install the Ask toobar on your system)

    (Windows XP / Vista / 7)

First you will need to unzip the file or just open the

folder and drag FFSetup270.exe out of the folder

and drop it on your desktop. Left click it to install.

Totally solved all the codec issues... I recommend detailed installation of the full package though.

This wasn't helpful as K-Lite was considered a virus and was automatically deleted.

None of the codecs shown here will solve the issue with movie maker, which is mostly after movie maker finishes editing your video, you will notice the video is distorted. None of the suggested downloads here will actually correct that problem. Microsoft has the correct download for this problem, however getting it from them seems to be next to impossible for some reason.
