Still can't view CR2. files from Canon 5D mark IV

I bought a Canon 5d Mark IV about 10 months ago and I have been waiting on Microsoft to release an update for Raw files so I can view the pictures on windows photo viewer without importing them to photoshop/lightroom but I don't know why its takin so long for Microsoft to realease the updates. Apple and Adobe released the updates for the new Raw CR2 files within a month but looks like Microsoft is taking their sweet time. I have also seen people complain about not being able to view the raw images from their Canon 7d Mark II camera that was released over two years ago. What is going on????? I have Windows 10 by the way and its up to date.

I too am experiencing the same issue with Canon 5D mark IV CR2 (RAW) files. The thumbnails, etc cannot be previewed in Windows Explorer. It appears we need an update to the MS camera codec. the last one available is from 2014

    Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (6.3.9721.0)

when may we see this updated?

I'm a Canon shooter and recently Canon loaned me a 5D Mark IV while my Mark III was in for service. Loved the Mark IV and am ready to upgrade but because it's such a hassle to process the CR2 (raw) files, Canon lost the sale. Maybe we should complain loudly to Canon instead and have them pressure Microsoft to fix this issue. Or ... we could all just move over to Mac products.

I too used to enjoy a quick look at CR2 files after loading them from my Canon to my PC, so I could quickly delete obvious bad ones before loading them into Lightroom or Photoshop. I was VERY surprised that Microsoft has not yet updated their OS or Codec for the Canon 5D Mark IV, released a year ago, and the flagship for the Canon consumer line. Microsoft obviously doesn't care about this segment of the photographic world. Apple does. Next time around, I'm going where the user support is. Shame on you Microsoft. This is inexplicable and inexcusable!

Me Too!  I've had my 5D4 for over 12 months now.  Still waiting.  Very frustrating.  Maybe I'll buy a Mac.

    Hi,

We understand your concern regarding the possible update that will enable you to view raw CR2 files using Windows Photo Viewer app. To better assist you, we'd like to gather more information:

    • Have you tried sending a feedback using the Feedback Hub app?
    • Have you tried to set other photo editing app to open the CR2 file by default instead of the Windows Photo Viewer app?

We're looking forward to your response

Canons own software allows viewing obviously, as do other standalone programs. Adobe Apple etc all updated their software quickly why cant Microsoft? The ability to view my photos quickly using photo viewer was great for sorting and deleting using my old camera. I'm not a professional photographer just an enthusiast, trying to use windows for quick editing and sharing.
