Windows 8.1 Free download

just downloaded windows 8.1 upgrade, it took 3 hours. OK, so my broadband may not be the fastest, but was it really worth it ??? I doubt it.....I've used windows since WIN 3.0......seriously considering going over to AppleMac. Loved NT/XP  even WIN 7, as reliable, but WIN8.0/Win8.1 usueful for mobiles & Tablets, but totally rubbish for a PC OS, found it to be slower, presentation, not so good and navigation, awful, if this is the way Microsoft is headed, then forget it, they should've given up after WIN 7......well, for a PC anyway. Just my personal feelings, but was a software engineer for 20+ years...now using an ACER note/netbook.......then, when installing WIN8.1, they expect you to enter a code, My Samsung had completely packed up, so had to use a 10 y/o PC to access emails to find out the code before going further.....so how on earth am I to access my email when doing the update....???? Answers on a postage stamp please......!!!!!!! I don't use a mobile or Tablet. but WIN 8.0/WIN8.1 is nowhere near as popular as previous OS from MS...I own a Free-house Pub, just going by the comments from the customers.....plus personal experience.....!!!!!!!!!

Um, Windows 8.1 is only free to Windows 8 users. So if you got some non-genuine version of Windows, that could be your problem. (although, for reasons I don't get, people have a problem with Windows 8 and 8.1 anyway)

For your convenience, try to make Windows 8 as usable as you can: use the desktop as often as you can and clean off your start screen and pin the desktop apps that you actually use on the front. That way you don't have to operate Windows 8.1 in any of these new tablet-like ways. If necessary, you can purchase a $5 third party start menu. Two that numerous other users have mentioned (I haven't tried them) are "classic shell" and "Start8".

    In my opinion:

I have no problem using anything new in Windows 8 or 8.1 (except for task manager). Many users say that Windows 8 and 8.1 are not good for mouse but okay for touch. I personally like using Windows 8.1 with the mouse and I can't imagine using it with touch.

Hi Cameron, yep, using the more classic Desktop Display, and always with a wireless mouse, so more or less gotten used to this newer OS......got a bit old fashioned with previous heavy use of NT and XP Pro. Even found several improvements with 8/8.1 over former OS's. Only problem to resolve now is sending & adding contacts when using MS Outlook (version MS Office 2000), error message pop-up "unable to find WAB.DLL2, but pretty sure will get around that. Again, many thanks and good to hear your opinions and suggestions - Best regards Kev
