Resolution suddenly stuck between 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024 options.

Hi, when I turned on my computer tonight my display was suddenly stretched and smaller than what it has been for months before (1920x1080). I've tried restarting my computer multiple times and has had no effect at resolving the problem, although however the computer starts with the correct resolution until it gets to the login screen, which then reverts back to 1280x1024 (the highest resolution option it gives me). I've tried to update the driver (ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics) to see if it was simply out of date but when attempted to update it says that I'm using the current version and is up to date. I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver yet. I'm currently on Windows 10 (with the Anniversary Update), the monitor I'm using is the Samsung C24F39FHU, and the motherboard I'm using is the M5A78L-M LE. I'm stuck what to try now as the internet hasn't been very useful so far (most similar problems seem to be on Windows 7 and 8, which isn't the most helpful thing in the world) so any help is appreciated!

Hi, your Display Driver might need rolling back . . . Windows Update has lately been installing incorrect display drivers . . .

Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

    Expand the Display Adapters Section

Right click your graphics card, choose properties

On the Driver Tab, click 'Roll back Driver'

Close Device Manager and restart your system

If there is no roll back available or that does not work, go to the Support page of the manufacturer of your PC/Laptop

Download the Device Driver they recommend for your Display Adapter/GPU and install that version, until Microsoft come out with a fix . . .

    Option 1:

Open Start > Settings > System > Display

Make sure recommended settings are selected for Scale and Layout and Screen resolution.

    Another thing you can try:

uninstall your display driver then restart

Boot to the Windows 10 desktop

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Device Manager

    Expand Display adapters

Right click the current display adapter

    Click Uninstall

    Exit Device Manager

    Restart

I recommend you uninstall the KB4048955

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: appwiz.cpl

    Hit Enter

    Click View installed updates

    Select the recent update

(This is the update you want to uninstall KB4048955)

Right click it then click uninstall.

Restart then see if stability is restored.

The update might try to install again. So, try blocking it.

Is there an option or work around to block updates or hardware drivers that might cause problems?

Yes, Microsoft has released a KB update (KB3073930) that will let users block or hide Windows or driver updates.

You can download it at the following link:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

If its the icons and toolbars, then Go back to Start > Settings > System > Display

Click in the Scale and layout list box, try another scale such as 125 to see if that works or play around with custom scaling.

    Option 2:

    Perform a repair upgrade

Is it an AMD? Recent Driver update of AMD is causing similar problems. Here is what I suggest:

Go to Device manager by typing in Devmgmt.msc in Run dialog box.

Navigate to Display devices and right click ATI Radeon HD. Choose Properties.

On the Driver tab, hit rollback Driver to go back to the previous version.

The next step would be to block Driver updates from Windows updates. For this,

    Option 1:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/48277-enabl...

Option 2: Use the show hide tool. As soon as the new driver is detected by WU, hide it. Steps are here:

Let us know how that goes..

The November Updates have triggered some problems and this is likely one of them. But if that does not work, I recommend you attempt the repair upgrade.

Thanks for the quick reply, the first option hasn't done anything to fix the issue. When looking to uninstall the KB4048955 update the update wasn't present on the list of updates, I'm not sure how relevant that is to resolving the issue.
