Unable to Extend Desktop to a second monitor

Hi,

So I recently bought a new monitor, I was previously operation of my TV.

But now I want to be able to extend the display to my desktop, so that when I watch tv programmes off the internet, I can just drag it over to my TV and sit back on the couch instead of having to sit in front of my monitor.

I go to screen resolution,  and it detects that both monitor are plugged in. The monitor (1920 x 1080) is plugged in with DVI, the TV (1280 x 720) with HDMI.

Both are plugged in through the GPU.

But when I click Extend The Desktop, and then try to save the changes an error message pops up telling me that it is unable to save these changes.

I'm not sure what the problem is, both monitors are plugged in, both work but I can't extend the display.

My GPU is a Gigabyte 6950, and it is updated to the latest drivers.

If anyone can help me solve this I'd be very grateful.

    Hi,

    Error message " Unable to save display settings" mainly indicates that you try to extend or duplicate the desktop to the external monitors.  I suspect that the issue occurs because the it remembers both configuration for your extended monitor and TV.  To extend your monitor, you need to clear the multiple configurations for your computer and then extend your display by changing your display settings. To do this, please take the following steps:

    The manual troubleshooting steps in the above link tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

    Delete registry key.

    a.      Press Win + R to open a run box.

    b.      In the Run box, type regedit, and then click OK.

    c.     Locate the following registry subkey:

    d.     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MobilePC\TMM

    e.     Right-click the subkey, then, click Delete.

    f.      When you are prompted to confirm the delete operation, click Yes.

    g.     On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

    h.     Log off the computer. Then, log on to the computer.

    Extend your display by changing display settings.

    a. Open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution.

    b. Click the drop-down list next to Multiple displays, click Extend these displays, and then click OK.

    no entry for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MobilePC\TMMI saw a thing that said   0 found this helpful, and I clicked it "me too" meaning that I as well found it 0 help, but that is not what that mean. My bad.

    There is not TMM file

    What should I do next

    Hi,

    How is the second monitor connected to the PC?

    Make sure that you have updated/reinstalled the very latest graphics drivers, which may be from PC manufacturer or from the actual video card manufacturer's site.

    After updating the latest drivers, press the Windows key + P, choose either extend or duplicate.

    Check if it work?

    Both monitors are connected to the Radeon x1300[/x1550 wddm] card, which has a two tailed cable coming out of it, with two VGA cables connected to 2 very similar Dell LCD's - maybe the same.

    "Identify" puts a "1" up on both screens. The screens are running in what must be "duplicate" mode, by which I mean only that they both show the same image.

    The Widows+P gets to a nice option panel very quickly. Cute! But each option produces the same result - no change. I assume, possibly incorrectly, that this two tailed cable is intended to support different images, and is not intended just to provide the same signal to an indefinite number of monitors, as in a classroom situation. That would be mind crazy, plus stupid.

    I download the AMD program that looks at your hardware and identifies the latest driver. It said this was it, which only means that they have not updated the driver for the X1300 card because why bother.

    Is there any reason to believe that this Radeon will support extended screen operation on Windows 7 Profession?
