In June, I had issues with my computer.  I called microsoft for help.  I ended up somehow getting some help from a technician.  For 250.00 they would fix my machine and follow up with me.  I just got a call and they told me I needed to long into helpme.net.  The technician says they are with microsoft.  How can I find out if this is a true service provider?  Thank you.

Since most people here in Microsoft Community do not work for Microsoft, it is difficult for us to definitely know if you fell for a scam or not...

We - normal users just like you - have no way of knowing if you called the legitimate Microsoft support or if you perhaps called a fake support.

Could easily be that the support people at Microsoft use helpme.net which is one of the many domains registered to Logmein,Inc (https://www.logmeininc.com/about-us) who provide software/services for remote access etc etc.

When I'm going to www.helpme.net I get re-directed to fastsupport.com which is also fully legitimate and also belongs to Logmein, Inc.

gotoassist.com belongs also to Logmein, Inc.

IMO it would be best that you contact/ask Microsoft directly:
