ASUS TOUCHPAD SMART GESTURES ONCE AGAIN NOT WORKING AFTER YET ANOTHER WINDOWS UPDATE

Seriously, this is so ridiculous. The forums and the entire world wide web is littered with the SAME COMPLAINTS about the touchpad smart gestures on ASUS laptops suddenly not working directly AFTER a Microsoft update. I literally dread when I see a new update waiting to be installed and I delay it for as long as I can because it ALWAYS, literally A.L.W.A.Y.S. knocks my touchpad features out. Then I proceed to spend the next few hours trying to reinstall the smart gestures. The frustrating thing is that I have to do this EVERY SINGLE TIME.

My laptop is relatively new (purchased towards the end of 2016). And I see people have been complaining about this since Windows 10 was first released. So why after ALL THIS TIME, can't ASUS and Microsoft get on the same page and get this fixed once and for all?? Why must so many consumers of various ASUS laptops have to endure this madness?? I don't know about anyone else, but it's enough to make me at least dump ASUS and next will be Microsoft as my OS. I have no doubt that this is a Microsoft issue.

I have even emailed ASUS directly to voice my displeasure. And here we are, still dealing with the SAME EXACT ISSUE.

For reference, I'm on a Q553UB.

Here is my previous email to ASUS:

[Problem Description]

I love my ASUS laptop but every single time I update Windows, I am no longer able to use gesture controls on the track pad. I spend entirely way too many hours having to research what to do for gesture controls (such as two finger scrolling, pinch and zoom, etc) to work again. I just did the Creator's Update and now my smart gestures don't work....AGAIN. I just want an easy solution posted on the ASUS webpage somewhere that explains how to get this issue resolved. Please! It is by far the most frustrating thing about this notebook!!

Here is ASUS' response:

Thank you for contacting ASUS Product Support, my name is Alberth M. I do hope you are having a wonderful day today.

I am very sorry that you are having this issue with the Touchpad not working properly. I understand how frustrating that can be, but I can definitely help in resolving this issue for you.

Based on the information you gave and what was explained, I do recommend reinstalling your Touchpad (smart gesture) driver from the ASUS support website in attempt to resolve this issue.

Before the installation you must first remove the previous driver then install the new one.

Please follow the instructions below to resolve the issue.

  1. Right-Click on the start icon.
  2. Navigate to Programs and Features.
  3. From the list of programs, locate ASUS Smart Gesture (if it is not present, then skip this step).
  4. Uninstall (do not restart until the new driver is downloaded and installed).
  5. After the uninstallation please see the below link for the driver and instructions:

Step 1. Copy and paste the below link in your browser:

https://www.asus.com/us/support/Download/3/866/0/1/0dPIgPvrsSIuLZvr/45/

Step 2. Select the operating system from the drop down menu.

Step 3. Click on “Touch Pad” to expand the list and choose the compatible driverVersion V4.0.12.

Step 4. Download using the option that says "Global" to download the driver.

Once you have downloaded the driver, please follow the instructions below to install the drivers:

  1. Open the ZIP folder.
  2. Check for subfolders marked Setup.
  3. If none are present, select the setup application file or setup.exe.
  4. Select Update or install drivers.
  5. Allow the unit to reboot.

Once your system restarts your touch pad function should be restored. Please see this link for the information need to configure your scroll and touch options:https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1009613

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again for assistance.

Is it me or does this seem like way too much to get smart gestures to work again??? And imagine having to do this multiple times??? This is probably the FIFTH time I've had to do this since I had this laptop. Absolutely ridiculous.

    Hello,

Noting all the details that you have provided.

Windows updates are essential for your computer. There are several reasons why we have to apply these updates.

One is to make sure that protect your system from malicious software. Security issues are regularly identified in various parts of the Windows operating system, including ActiveX, Internet Explorer, .NET Framework, or the main platform. Note that even if you're running anti-malware or anti-virus software, as that software may not sufficiently protect you from Windows security issues.

Another reason why you should apply Windows update is this resolve general Windows issues and bugs. While it's likely that these noncritical errors are not responsible for security-relevant vulnerabilities, it's still would be best to install general updates to avoid or resolve Windows issues.

And last but not the least, this is to have access to new Windows and software features. Having the latest updates ensure that you get the latest introduced features while at the same time fixing some known issues. Moreover, some programs are eventually outdated, meaning that if new vulnerabilities are discovered, they will not be patched, as users are expected to run the latest version of the program.

If errors are met with your programs and applications after an update, one of the possible reason for this is that that program may have to update as well since it's software may be outdated and is designed to work to the previous build of Windows. For example, your device driver for your touchpad, you mentioned that you have to do an update or reinstall it again for it to work, that means your device driver has to cope up with the Windows update so they (the device driver and Windows) can work effectively.

May we know if you're still experiencing the issue? We are always here to help.

We will be waiting for your response.

    Kind regards,

    Anne
