Hey. I've recently tried to play games on my PC that give me the following prompt when I try to boot them:

"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OPENGL32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000006"

Can anyone help me with this?

    Hi Jared,

The issue that you’ve encountered regarding the error code that you receive on your Windows 10 computer may be caused by some configuration or files mismatched. To sort out your concern, we’d like to know the following information:

    • Were there any changes that happened prior to the issue?
    • What are the troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

On the other hand, we suggest that you run the System File Checker (SFC) toolon your PC to scan and correct if there’s a possible integrity violation on the system. To do this, you may follow the steps provided on this link. Once you’re on the page, you may expand the Windows 10, Windows 7, or Windows Vista option under the Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) section, and then complete the process. After completing the steps, you may check if the issue persists.

We’re looking forward to your response.

    HI Joseph.

I tried what you asked me to do and I got the same problems. However, when I booted up my computer normally to do some work, a massive update was installing. It took a few hours to do so I thought something major changed. I tried to boot up the games that didn't work and now they do. Not sure what happened but my problem is solved.

    Thanks for all your help!

We appreciate the information that you've provided and we're glad to know that the issue is already resolved. On the other hand, we encourage that you regularly update your computer to make sure that your device is at its maximum performance.

To check for the latest update, go to Windows Update by clicking Start > Settings > Update & security and click Check for updates. It will scan and install all the latest updates available for your device.

If you have other concerns, feel free to post it here in the Community.

In addition to the resolution, we suggest that you boot your PC in safe mode. This process will start Windows in a basic state by using a minimal set of files and drivers and it also helps the troubleshooting process to eliminate software conflict. To do this, you may follow the steps provided on this link. Once you’re on the page, you may expand and proceed with the steps under the Show all section, and then complete the process. After booting your device in safe mode, you may run the SFC tool again.

Note: Running the tool may take a few minutes, please wait until the process is done before closing the Command Prompt window.

Once you’re done running the tool on your PC and if the issue persists, you may restart your device, and then update the drivers on your PC. This is to verify if the issue is not related to the drivers on your computer. To do this, you may follow the steps in this article on how to update drivers in Windows 10. Once you’re done with these steps, you may check if you’re able to use the device properly.

Let us know the result should you need further assistance.

    Hi Joseph,

Answering your questions, I am not aware of any changes that may have occurred before this started to happen and I have not done any troubleshooting. I haven't been able to find any help in this situation prior to my original post.

I tried to follow the steps in the SFC Tool link and when I reached step 2 I had an issue. After entering "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" into the command prompt, the following message appeared after being stuck at 14.5%:

"The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log"

Can you help me with this?

    Thanks.
