C:\Users\<myName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE I know this has been addressed before but here goes AGAIN

C:\Users<MyName)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE

The Disk Cleanup utility shows there are 16.6MB in this folder.

When I ask it to 'View Files' the folder is empty.

IF I try to find the folder by navigation on my own IT IS NOT THERE!

So, what is there that Microsoft won't let disk cleanup remove the 16.6MB it shows as being there?

AND WHY? would Microsoft hide it?

I have Internet Explorer set to remove everything on close.

Same with EDGE.

BUT> I never use either IE nor EDGE,

Nor do I use that silly Cortana thing!

SO WHY? are there crap being dumped to my machine(s) and then hidden so it can't be removed?

ANd where is it coming from?

Well I see you delete my snitty post, but left yours intact. tacky!

Anyway, this is how I finally got things cleaned out. The answer was in this community. I'll let you look for it, but I doubt you go any farther except to delete this one too!

    Resolution, t least for me.

Right click on C: drive - Properties -> General -> Disk Cleanup -> select Temporary Internet Files from the list -> Delete.

Good luck, let me know how did that go.

I came across this by accident, and #3above worked for me when nothing else did!

I tried the Disk Cleanup utility time and time again, and the Temporary Internet Files(18MB) and the Temporary Files near the bottom of the list(15MB), both growing daily and I don't even use IE nor do I use Edge! o how they get there is still a mystery to me!

So, I did the # 3 things from Ola_Ser's post and it clean them out and danged quick!

Good luck to anyone else having this problem!

you would unhide system files in the same Folder options where you unhide hidden folders. Look down the list a bit.

if you have complaints about Microsoft and how they program their operating system which serves a billion users then use the Feedback Hub app in Start menu where the developers are required to process your feedback. They will not even see it here, which is a tech forums staff mainly by volunteers.

I went the extra mile to go to the folder you were having problems with in my own install, unhide the files properly (which you couldn't do) and report what I found was likely the issue?

Did you think you were lashing out at Microsoft.? No, I am a volunteer giving my time to help others here. Do you think volunteers are going to continue to help when we are bashed by those we're trying to help for trying to help you?

I dont see any thing about system files, but the first thing I do with any new windows machine or new windows OS is unhide the ‘hidden files and folders’.

So yeah, it is checked to show hidden files and folders.

funny thing is, my wifes laptop has also never open edge nor IE, and hers is also full of something in that folder which is shown as EMPTY when I tell Disk Cleanup,to view the files from its interface.

still makes me wonder what kind of BS Microsoft is cramming downl our throats and will not let us remove it with any tools available, MS or 3rd party.

    thanks for the response.

BTW, after I am in that folder, I navigate UP, and it shows a LOW and a ‘hidden folder named Virtualized, which also are empty.

All this applies to both laptops, and my desktop Windows units. I haven’t looked at the Win7 machine to see if it does the same.

Hi Bill. I'm Greg, a volunteer installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Did you unhide System and Hidden files in File Explorer Folder Options?

When I unhide mine I see five sub-folders in that folder which may contain varying amounts of metadata depending upon previous use of IE, which is possibly never cleared via normal browser methods.

These however should be cleaned up using Disk Cleanup if you choose System and Temporary files during the process.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
