DVD Player App for Windows 8.1

I am not a genius but I had hoped finding an app to revitalize my dead-in-the water DVD/CD player (R/W+, et al) that came with our GATEWAY

computer (Model DX-4831-07c). I think the '07c' means it came with Windows 7. I wished we had left it alone. I 'thought'(??) MicroSoft would know better and that we should upgrade to Windows 8; then 8.1. If  absolutely necessary, I will buy a new computer. I have searched the MS Store and did not find an app to bring the DVD back to life. Am I not seeing what's there because it does not say "DVD resuscitator for Windows 8.1"?

Bill Smithers was very helpful answering my first question. If you are out there Bill, HELLLL-P !!!!!!!!!!

    PA Bear

My apologies. Unfortunately my memory is not getting any better and I tend to blame it on my computer. If you can work with me on this I would truly appreciate your help. I am obligated to appointments today but will email you again tomorrow if that is okay with you.

PA Bear. Great. Thanks for coming back to my rescue. This whole thing might be a larger problem than just the DVD/CD thing. But if we can get that working again, I will worry about all the other nonsense later.

Yes, I have downloaded the two apps & they are in my desktop. I am running Windows 8.1, IE 11 and at 64bit capacity. I wondered why I had those two apps in there. Now it is coming back to me.

I suspect Norton may have something to do with the "long running script" issue, too. Meanwhile, chillax - I'll be here (not 24/7 though) when you're up & running again.

    Hey PA Bear

It'**** and miss right now but they want us off-line while they do some checking. Probably going for lunch. The 8.1 is 64bit. As for BELL, it's them or Cogeco. Hanging or injection; some choice. Went with BELL for fiber optic but here we are; again. If we go the whole 9 yards with the reset, it will likely be 1 1/2 hr at least.

At least it's a nice day for mowing. The neighbourhood beautification committee will be pleased. Don't know why keep getting notice of delay due to "long running script". The browsing is set to "disable script debugging" in both I.E. & 'other'; notification is off. What next? All the replies I sent last night? I can't find them either.

Still dunno if you're running Win8.1 64-bit or Win8.1 32-bit. That being said, we wouldn't be able to make any progress if your internet connection's horked so no rush (for me) - I've got a lawn to cut!

    PS: Bell Canada or..?
