hey did u find any solution for this because my dell laptop is also facing the same problem. plz tell if u know any solution for this
Windows 7 Fan runs continuously, even after shutdown
Hi,
Recently my laptop was dropped. It's a Dell Inspiron 15R N5010. The hard disk died so I have replaced it and performed a full clean install of Windows 7 SP1. I've updated all drivers and run Windows Update until the cows came home. I've also updated the BIOS to A15. As Windows is starting up the fan ramps up to full speed and stays on continuously. If I do a restart, the computer will shut down, screen goes black, fan keeps running for a few seconds (longer than I think it should) but then the laptop does shut down and restart correctly.
If I shutdown the laptop, the screen goes black and all disc activity stops, but the fan continues to run at full speed. Only by holding down the power button for 7 seconds can I make it shut down fully.
Initial thought was that there is a problem with the heat sinks, but using the Core Temp utility, the Cores are running at 40degC. Max since I've been typing this is 55degC. There is not a significant CPU load (<4%).
Any ideas what could be causing this? While clearly there could have been some physical damage during the drop, I have a suspicion that this is a Windows issue...
Cheers
Rich

2014-01-19T11:21:55+00:00 Hi Palcouk,
So, after much searching I found this page: http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/04/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&docid=DSN_362048 which (if it ever loads - I usually had to hit refresh a couple of times) has a table showing the correct order to install the drivers.
So I went through that list, found the files to install, and then had to go through that list again to make a list of which files are which! Here's what I have installed (in order):
DELL_SYSTEM-SOFTWARE_A01_R260746.exe
R257260.exe Intel HM57 Express Chipset Driver
R273110.exe Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
R280657.exe IDT 92HD79B1, v.6.10.0.6289, A03
R285472.exe Intel HD Graphics Media Accelerator Driver
R257292.exe Realtek RTL8103T Ethernet Controller Driver
R257296.exe Dell QuickSet Application
R258276.exe Dell Wireless WLAN 1501 Half Mini-Card Driver
Isn't it a nice feature that some of the files actually install and apply the drivers, while others just unzip them, leaving me to go to the Device Manager to manually update the drivers?!?
So this morning I've done a clean installation of Windows and installed the above drivers.
The fan has remained at full speed throughout :o(
I have not run windows update yet.
As soon as I had got the WiFi driver installed, I went on to http://www.dell.com/support/ and analysed my system for updates. It keeps saying I need to download R257260.exe Intel HM57 Express Chipset Driver! (it was doing this yesterday). This suggests to me that maybe it isn't being installed correctly???
Any ideas? I'm going to continue with the windows update now, but I do not think this is close to being solved yet.
Cheers
Rich
PS. As a record / for future reference, here is a complete merger of the order of driver install table in http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/04/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&docid=DSN_362048 and the files that the dell website recomends for each.

2014-01-18T14:16:36+00:00 Just visit Dell support specific to your tag#
I'm not sure if Dell support site enables you to download all drivers then install in a batch.
If you had used the Dell recovery disk the Dell manager utility would have been installed and available for you to update and install via batches
Start off with the chipset drivers, then graphics and any Lan/wireless

2014-01-18T13:52:03+00:00 Did you clean install using an actual MS win disk or using the Dell recovery media?
If the former did you update the drivers from Dell support, specific to your tag# or did you make the mistake of updating drivers via windows update? - If that is the case obtain all drivers for Dell support
Ah, possibly guilty as charged. Thanks.
Is it ok to download and install the Dell drivers now, or do I need to do a fresh install of windows?
Is there a way to download all of the necessary drivers in one go from the Dell website?
Is there a way to install and apply all of the necessary drivers in one go?
One other thing to note, in Safe Mode the fan behaviour is the same, but when I shut down, initially I see the "O Windows is shutting down", where O is the spinning wait circle, but then the circle freezes and the screen does not go black. I then have to hard shutdown to turn it off.
Are there any clues as to which device's driver I should be looking to update to fix this?
Cheers
