Do you need a license to run a Microsoft Teams live event?

Do you need a license to run a live event via Teams? Also, if multiple users are participating on the live event would they require induvial licenses for Teams, or is it just the host?

    yes you need an Enterprise Plan licence (E1-E3-E5)

    The producer and presenter of Teams live event must be assigned the following licenses:

    • A Microsoft or Office 365 Enterprise E1, E3, or E5 license or an Office 365 Education A3 or A5 license.
    • A Microsoft Teams license. - this is included in the licenses above.
    • A Microsoft Stream license - is required if you are planning to share the content to an external app or device.

    The attendees can be invited to live event as guests or anonymous users.

    There is a lack of clarity in the Microsot 365 Business Standard that it does not include Live Events in either teams or MS Stream. Even though I don't have the Stream or Team in the Microsoft 365 Business Standard, I can log into Stream and TEams, and configure live events.

    Very frustrated with MS clarity in this matter, but it could be just me. Where are the paths that lead me to purchase an Enterprise licese for live event streaming?!?

    Why can I use Stream and Teams, with an Microsoft 365 Buinsess Standard, but not do live event?

    It is a great shame, as this is one area that Microsoft has lost out to Zoom in a big way. All charity based events are on Zoom as Microsoft has priced itself out of the market. Only large organisations can do live events. It is Teams for the workplace and Zoom for everything else.

    Clearly I am coming in late here. Re Zoom vs Teams. I think Zoom is more popular than Teams for two reasons 1. Successful marketing as an easy to use video conference tool. 2. Microsoft Teams in initial sign in can be surprisingly difficult especially if you happen to already have another MS Account. This puts many folk off. Once folk have successfully logged in to Teams for the first time, there after the login is easy and I think easier to use than Zoom...but that first sign in can be frustrating if you don't understand the process.

    As for cost, Microsoft 365 is available with 300 licenses free to Not For Profit groups. You need to apply for this via Tech Soup and this in itself takes time and effort. Through the same effort with Tech Soup, Zoom offers a 50% discount per license... this can get expensive if you need to run more than one zoom session at a time.

    I personally think Teams and the M365 suite is a far more versatile product for Video Conferencing. I love the channels and breakout rooms. I am planning a conference using teams.
