How Do I disable Tap and Click Touchpad Function Following Windows 10 Update?

Every time I have a Windows 10 update I need to disable the stupid tap and click function on my Elan pointer.  Following a large update in December 2017 I can disable the function ONLY during my current work session. If I close my laptop the function automatically enables.  WTF????  How do I stop this from happening?

    Hi Rose Cal,

Thank you for your reply, however, I have already tried this solution with no success.  Prior to a recent Windows 10 update this was how I dealt with this issue and it worked.  Here is screenshot of my attempt.  Not that "Tapping" is not enabled yet whenever I tap my touchpad the tap-to-click feature activates.  This makes no sense to me.  I must be missing something and any additional suggestions are welcomed.

I appreciate the effort you put into checking on this.  I'm still hopeful for a miracle 'cure".  I wonder if this has happened to anyone else.  I'd love to hear from others.

Oh yes plenty of others out there have this same problem. if you put a search into google you run across lots of people complaining of this over the years. What is the make and model of you laptop? How old is it?  Have you tried updating the drivers for it? Also do you have a multimedia setting key for it on your keyboard on the top row of your keyboard? If so the software for it may have been uninstalled with the update. Take a look at Ease of access settings in control panel for new settings that may be enabled after the update  to see if something in there. Do you have a windows mobility center in the control panel? Take a look through there. Mine is set up with the computer manufacturers settings but it looks as if windows has disabled some stuff in mine after the last update.  Have you tried rebooting windows after selecting the settings you want ?   You could also try going into power settings to change the way you put your computer to sleep.

I found this on a search . Hopeful it will help you. all information follows. If you are finding an old driver there then try to install it in compatibility mode. I can't guarantee this will even work. This is an older post the (2nd post) and the driver version may or may not be newer. You may have already seen these posts and they may not change a thing for you.

    Install this driver.

Ignore if  isn't for your pc, the device is the same.

On my Lenovo g500 it worked, and now I have all the settings.

Got all settings back except single finger scrolling unfortunately.

Same here, and that was the only thing I was looking for...

found a working solution, and it even uses an updated driver!

    1. Open Internet Explorer (Sorry, doesn't work on Edge or any other browser)
    2. Go to Microsoft's update catalog
    3. If the screen you get is solid blue or missing the search bar, you might be missing a plugin. Refresh the page and there should be an option to install it.
    4. The page should now look like this. Search "Elan Input Device".
    5. Press the "Last Update" column header. It should now be sorted by the most recent release.
    6. Click the titles on both of these (you may need to enable popups). Check inside the popup if the architecture is for AMD64 (64-bit) or x86 (32-bit). The reason I ignored the top two results is because they are exclusively for Toshiba pcs.
    7. Click "Add" ONLY if the driver is both compatible with your OS version (Windows 10) AND the correct architecture for your system (AMD64 = 64-bit Windows ; x86 = 32-bit Windows). If not, close the popup and keep selecting titles until you find a match.
    8. Near the top right of your screen, you should see "view basket (1)". If you have a number, sucess, your driver has been added. Click on it.
    9. Press "Download" and curse Microsoft for their convoluted driver update system.
    10. Choose where you want the driver to download (I just chose the default Downloads folder).
    11. Locate the downloaded driver file (.cab). Extract it to another folder.

WHAT? WAIT. HOW DO I INSTALL IT?

    Manually.

    1. Open "Device Manager" (Right Click on Start Menu).
    2. Locate "Mice and other pointing devices" and expand it.
    3. Right click on "ELAN Input Device" and select "Update Driver".
    4. Choose "Browse my computer for driver software."
    5. Choose "Browse" and select the folder where you extracted the driver files.
    6. Choose next and cross your fingers. Restart your pc after installation for the changes to apply.
    7. Head back to device manager, right click "ELAN Input Device," and select "properties." It should now be version "15.6.2.1."
    8. Navigate to: Settings > Devices > Mouse & Touchpad > Additional Mouse Options. See if there is an ELAN tab.
    9. Enable it if necessary. Then choose options.

Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't help.  This issue is beyond the typical fixes and I have spent hours researching this with no answers.  Regarding your suggestion, here is a screenshot of the two windows I have opened to solve this.  Note that when I open the "ELAN" tab I uncheck "Enable" which works during my current work session.  When I close my laptop (Lenovo G510S Touch) the tapping feature enables on its own as if it reverts to a default setting.
